Agenda Description
Item
1. Introduction: Refer to attendees list.
2. Please refer to attached presentation for meeting materials.
• The project team met with the group for the 3rd time and reviewed the agenda:
• Design team will present draft recommendations to be shared to the SBC based on discussions
in Meeting#1 and #2.
• Focus Group will provide feedback recommendations so they can be shared with the SEX in
Meeting#4.
• Next Steps
The objective of this meeting is to discuss site design for traffic, circulation, safety and security. Includes
conversations about parking, driveways and circulation, fields, and offsite improvements and
coordination with Town Departments.
SMMA presented the excel spreadsheet that reviews all recommendations. Each recommendation will
be labeled as"given"(green), "further review"(yellow), and "not recommended"(Red/orange).
Balancing Open Campus Tradition with Safety Concerns
1-2.
K. Lenihan : cannot see continuing to have a campus where non-students can walk into the
middle of campus, not just anyone should be able to walk onto campus.
o Not opposed to open campus (students leave campus during break period)
M. Connor: Does this mean it has to be one building?
K> Lenihan: could have a building with an interior courtyard
M. Connor:You're going to lock yourself into one solution with that comment
M. Battite: Have we defined what campus is? Right now it's a park with a school on it.
o Really important for the community to understand what campus means
M. Cronin:The interior courtyard need to consider snow removal/lawn mowing access
M. Sandeen: How do we allow students to be outside in natural environment notjust an
interior courtyard

Balancing Community Access with Safety Concerns
12.V. Leroy: We should be using the language performing arts center rather than the
auditorium, the town is looking for a lot more than just a lecture hall
13-16. M. Rice: add /field house to gymnasium
M. Sandeen: clarify that suggestion is to make access relatively free to visitors t certain

parts of the building
• Reword this to clarify
18. Shift to yellow
Add visitor management system
M. Sandeen: recommend community discussion about upsides/downsides of video
surveillance

29-32.
Comment:
• some of these comments are out of the design team's purview
o We see these as part of the school project
o We will be pushing out some of these recommendations to groups with direct purview to
these recommendations
o Off-site improvements are typical for projects of this size
• M. Sandeen: Would like to see a recommendation for provided parking for e-bikes
• Would like to see safe passage for bikes for safe drop off
• K. Lenihan: how is parking for e-bikes different from regular bikes
o Bigger
o More expensive
o Require additional security
o Require charging

46. M. Sandeen: Should look at building orientation for daylighting as well
47-48.
•Are we considering batteries for shifting demand consumption?
• If buses were used as an alternate source from a generator, what is the number of buses we
would need? Need to analyze

in the not so distant future to understand the landscape of options
55. No comment
56. K.Lenihan: seems like a greater societal issue out of scope of the school building
Committee
M. Rice: some of these recommendations are not finite recommendations
D.Voss: Can consider something as simple as a more electrified driving fleet
•Add a comment about net zero being a given

N. Sofen: Would like you to be aware that the top soil in last high school project was substandard, as
you're thinking of landscaping, spec soil should improve the current soil
S. Page:TSG is transportation safety group.Asks that TSG be involved as concept plans are developed
• Could more of the stream be daylighted? We are looking into it
J. Himmel:
There needs to be a better way to connect what it is that the town wants to see, how it's delivered, and
how it's maintained. Needs to be a better integration of how landscape is done in town.
• We will not install anything that cannot be maintained
• We do not irrigate any off our landscaping
D. Pinnsonnault: Daylighting off brook would have to be coordinated with engineering staff
• When talking about athletic fields, any of drainage from fields has to be factored into plan
• Natural fields will have to be irrigated
P. Moyer: Dedicated group dedicated to using native species
• Wants to make sure that we plant things with a sensitivity to what would have been here if there
were no high school
• Create a place that is enjoyable for students to explore
Ensuring Student Safety During Construction
88-91. No comment
M. Rice: note that there are positives to students experiencing construction and there are opportunities
for learning
J. Himmel: it would be interesting to know how much space will be dedicated to lay down area

L. Giersbach: asked about no irrigation during the planting period

Questions
113. Understanding that there are very few parking spots offered by lottery to students, how does that
number modify?
116.
L. Giersbach: often what happens is it's a lot less expensive to replace plants than to water them, so the
landscape contractor doesn't have maintenance plan
How do we ensure that plants will be watered and we are really caring for the landscape?
• We water plants through the establishment. Our specifications will include maintenance
responsibilities, including watering, of contractor.
• Retainage to be able to get the work done. Built-in backup systems to ensure plants are getting
Page 6 of 7
established.
• Specs are so specific that we outline how much water per plant material type per week is
required
M. Battite:Thinking about connectivity and if park elements are going to be disconnected from school
campus
• Need adequate lighting from parks to campus
J. Himmel: Because security was coupled with the landscape, discussion tended to be security on
outside of
building.
• Outside access/open campus idea should be a discussion for SBC to understand how we go about
dealing with security
• Physical layouts that lend themselves to being more/less secure
• It's an extremely complicated topic that needs to be tackled at a high level in the next few weeks
because it's at the root of the design
• Have you ever seen projects that have a commissioning agent for site work
o Have seen it for irrigation
o A commissioning agent is a 3rd party entity that comes in to validate the installation and
functionality of systems of the building
o We can look into it
Closing:
What to expect in meeting#4:
Objective:The four focus groups will reconvene to discuss each group's recommendations
