NI r'P "" to TOWN OF LEXINGTON .41.4111111.1 � MASSACHUSETTS 2 ' RECREATION COMMITTEE L�XING'� RECREATION COMMITTEE MINUTES JANUARY 17 , 1996 Members Present: Don Chisholm, Sandy Shaw, Rick DeAngelis Paul Keane, Pam Varrin Staff Present: Karen Simmons, Brian Gilbert Citizens: Bob Boudreau , Carla Fortmann, John Hoffmire Minutes of November 8, 1995 were accepted with the following amendments: -George Woodbury attended . -Project was to extend the 3rd hole, not the 3rd tee . LEXINGTON YOUTH SOCCER- Carla Fortmann and Bob Boudreau attended the meeting to discuss the fields . They submitted two handouts regarding causes of poor field conditions , field maintenance issues, and a proposed routine soccer field maintenance schedule. A lengthy discussion took place around field use, field conditions and maintenance. LYS is to be commended for their work and support around these issues. LYS paid for soil tests and forwarded the results to Brian . LYS and Brian have worked together to develop the recommended routine soccer field maintenance schedule. The town and LYS committed to this , but must re-evaluate the priorities and resources every year. LYS is committed to ensuring quality fields and is willing to add further support if necessary to supplement the town . George Woodbury met with the base commander at Hanscom to discuss using their fields . Brian will invite George to the next Recreation Committee meeting for an update. The Field Use Committee will begin meeting in mid February. SAND VOLLEYBALL COURT AT LINCOLN STREET- A diagram and estimated cost sheet for the proposed volleyball court was handed out by John Hoffmire. A discussion took place regarding the fence and estimated expenses. The following issues are to be investigated prior to the next meeting : -What are the labor costs and who will underwrite them? -What is the total bottom line? -New prices with 6 ft. fence. -If we go forward, where will the funds come from? Brian will get these figures and present them at the next meeting. The Recreation Committee endorses this project and will continue the discussion at the next meeting. PINE MEADOWS Don reported on the progress of the RFP. A decision should be made by the committee this week. The revenue is down approximately $90,000. 00 from last year due to the construction. The expansion pond design was sent to Dave Jacobson of Amory Engineering. it is recommended not to do the work this spring, but wait until November 15th in order to have minimal impact on the Golf Course operations. Jacobson will present to the Conservation Committee. RECREATION OPEN SPACE Pam Varrin will be the representative from the committee. OTHER BUSINESS Don received a call from Gayle Shattuck requesting that a representative from the Recreation Committee be on the hiring panel for the Assistant Town Manager position. It is scheduled for January 26th. Sandra is interested. The committee is supportive of the Skate Board Park. Pam Varrin is pursuing this effort. The draft of the Annual Report was handed out. Feedback is due to Karen by Friday, January 19th . Don will be stepping down from the committee in June. THE NEXT RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING WILL BE WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1996, AT 7 :30 PM IN ROOM G-15. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE.
