Presentations/Reviews
Wireless Communications (subsidiary of T Mobile)—310 Wood Street
Represented by Ricardo Sousa, Atty. 617.348.4495&John Coste
The purpose was to have an informal meeting to solicit DAC's recommendations before going to the ZBA.
Wireless Communications' objective is to eliminate a gap of coverage between Rtes. 128 & 95.
Presented was a replacement of a pole with the collaboration of NStar. The new pole would represent an
increase of 28'. The pole will be made from wood and kept natural color. There were no objections to the
height of the pole. It is anticipated that the pole will NOT need to be lit—this is to be verified with FAA.
The color of the cabinet of the base station will be changed to green. The DAC also recommended that
the chain link fence surrounding the station be green, or green on black, with plantings surrounding the
fence to provide screening.
The potential 4 locations for perspective site lines were discussed and determined to be: Bates,
Patterson, north of Old Mass. Ave., and a point off Rte. 128 that made sense. John will notify the DAC
when the hearing is held, offered copy of photos, and will provide the DAC with feedback and
confirmation from the FAA.
Grace Chapel—59 Worthen Rd.:
Steve Hurley serves the Grace Chapel in an Advisory Role thus Karl was the Acting Chair, representing
the DAC.
Others representing the Grace Chapel: Dan Hartman, Michael Radner as Landscaping Architect, Dana
Baker, Tim Ponzanni, and Tom Colatosti as Board Member.
Presented was a preliminary design for a newly built structure that will be added to the existing modern
building(with demolition of the other attached existing structures). The Grace Chapel is scheduled for a
hearing with the ZBA on 8/14/03. The Grace Chapel arrived at the proposed plan by conducting 2
independent studies to produce a recommendation that would satisfy their mandate to make a prominent
entry way; to improve landscape; to remedy code issues and correct outstanding flaws. The design, as
presented, was preliminary. The Grace Chapel is working with an aggressive schedule and will review
subsequent, more detailed plans, with the DAC as design progresses. The concept is to continue to
utilize the existing modern structure during the demolition process of the existing structures and the
construction of the new structure, which will become fully integrated with the existing modern structure.

DAC Meeting Minutes from 8/5/03
In summary, there were several items for follow-up by Grace Chapel:
- Produce a plan that will show the temporary structure with all the egress locations.
- Find a resolution to the existing HVAC units housed on the roof of the existing contemporary structure
by providing a screen of some sort.
- Revisit the spec for the proposed light fixture to ensure that it have full cut-off.
- Provide more detail going forward in terms of building materials, signage, etc.
- Give some more thought how to"dress up"the existing façade of the contemporary structure that is
cost effective.
- Revisit the design of the entry way/tower in order to give it more prominence and feel of warmth.
There was no discussion with respect to Signage, nor were any plans proposed. This will be scheduled
for review at some future date.
The DAC is generally in favor of the concept and direction of the project; the DAC is looking forward to
the ongoing development of the details.
