Marshall, Chairman DATE: May 7, 1986 Board of Selectmen FROM: Peter Chalpin, Chairman SUBJECT: Traffic Committee Traffic Safety Committ--/ L At its Meeting of May 7, 1986, the Traffic Safety Committee met with a contingent of East Lexington residents to discuss their concerns about traffic on Massachusetts Avenue from Tower Park to the Arlington Line. As you know, this is a very large section of Massachusetts Avenue, and while common problems may exist throughout, each area may also have problems peculiar to itself. Our initial recommendation is for increased enforcement. The Police Department has agreed to begin immediately We are not prepared, however, to recommend anything beyond this at this time. The residents have suggested that a multitude of actions may be in order, from new crosswalks to Police details to new traffic signals. The Committee feels that its first task will be to determine what, if any, actual problems exist. We agree that the potential for problems exist, but as the Board knows, that same potential, albeit in varying degrees, exists on all streets at all times. The Committee will therefore consider this matter over the next few weeks and will discuss it again at its June Meeting.
