Chalpin, Chair an SUBJECT: Wachusett Drive Traffic Safety Committee 41/ Mr. Ossman At its meeting of 12/21/83, the Traffic Safety Committee discussed Mr. Ossman's requests for barricades and a dead end warning sign on Wachusett Drive. Mr. Ossman was in- vited, but did not attend the meeting. Wachusett Drive is an unaccepted street. As such, the Town is not in a position to provide barricades or warning signs as requested. However, the residents could, on their own, install whatever warning signs or other safety devices they felt were warranted. With respect to Wachusett Drive overall, the Committee noted that its twelve to sixteen foot pavement width is certainly less than adequate for two-way traffic. General improvement of geometry should be considered by the neighborhood. They may wish to petition the Town to accept the street and con- struct it to Town Standards. In his letter, Mr. Ossman referenced a barricade on Outlook Drive, which he believes was erected by the Town. The Committee is unaware of the circumstances surrounding this barricade. But, since Outlook Drive at this location is also an unaccepted street, had we been asked for a recom- mendation, it would have been in the negative. Those in attendance: Peter M. Chalpin Dr. Eric Clarke Mr. Robert Trask pmc/w cc: Robert M. Hutchinson, Town Manager Walter J. Tonaszuck, Director Francis X. Fields, Town Engineer F-TM-1 MP-2M
