MEMORANDUM

Board of Selectmen /

ftA
Traffic Safety Committee Hayes Avenue
96
At its meeting of March 4, 1981 the Traffic Safety Corranittco
discussed the letter from Lydia B. Zimmer regarding the intersection
of Hancock Street and H=-es Avenue.
It was the Committee's feeling that a crosswalk should be in-
stalled on Hancock Street at that location as requested. Hovever,
a crossing guard is not warranted at this time.
Therefore, it was unanimously voted: 1) to recommend to the
Board that a crosswalk be painted as soon as weather permits; and
2) to recommend that the request for a crossing guard be denied.
The Police Department also assured the Committee that strict en-
forcement of the 30mph speed limit would continue.
In addition, the Committee discussed the need for a Stop sign
on Hayes Avenue at Hancock Street. It was felt that the limited
sight distance encountered when leaving Hayes Avenue justified place-
ment of a Stop sign. The Committee therefore unanimously voted to
recommend that a Stop sign be installed. I have taken the liberty
of enclosing the necessary documentation for the Board's approval.
