SELECTMEN
FEB 2 41983 MEMORANDUM
To: Alfred S. Busa, Chairman DATE: 2/24/83 PAGE:
Board of Selectmen
FROM: Peter M. Chalpin, Chairman j/ SUBJECT: Parking
Traffic. Safety Committee Munroe School
Enclosed is a copy of an amendment to the Traffic Rules
and Orders dated March 30, 1977 relative to a ''No Parking"
regulation on both sides of Massachusetts Avenue at the Munroe
School. The discontinuance of this regulation was among the
topics discussed at the Traffic Safety Committee 's 2/23/83
meeting.
As you may recall, the prohibition was put into affect
to eliminate a visibility problem caused by parents parking
in the area in front of the school at thebeginning and end
of the school day.
Over the last few months, as part of a new ongoing effort,.
the Committee members have been canvasing the town with an
eye toward more efficient traffic management in areas outside
the Central Business District. This location is one of the
earliest to come to light, and, we feel, one of the simplest
to improve..
It is our opinion that a "No Parking" regulation here is
now unnecessary. Present use of this building, as well as the
church across Mass. Avenue, would be better served by allowing
parking in front, and it is our observation that the area is
being utilized for parking anyway, causing no apparent problems.
With this in mind, we unanimously voted to recommend to
the Board that the regulation be repealed. We have taken the.
liberty of enclosing the necessary documentation for the
Board's signature should you concur with our recommendation.
