T Board of Selectmen Z3 FROM: Peter M. Chalpin, Chairm.. SUBJECT: Mason Street Traffic Safety Committe- Mr. Weene At its meeting of June 16 , 1982 the Traffic Safety Committee discussed the request from Mr. Paul Weene for a crosswalk and signs at the neighborhood pool entrance. In 1975 , "Slow Children" signs were installed on Mason Street in response to a similar request. Since that time, "Curve" signs and "School Bus Stop Ahead" signs have also been installed. Recently, we recommended a centerline and chevrons be installed near the pool. Also recommended was roadside clearing. Inspection of Mason Street showed that one of the "Slow Children" signs was missing, and that the other one was overgrown, as were most of the other signs . Mason Street is slightly over one-quarter mile in length, and with all its previously approved signs in place and visible, along with approval of the recently recommended improvements, provides adequate warning to motorists of its geometry and the presence of children. We therefore recommend that Mr. Weene's request for a crosswalk and additional signing be denied. cc: Robert M. Hutchinson, Town Manager Walter J. Tonaszuck, Director of Public Works/Eng. F-TM-1 MP-2M
