MEMORANDUM

To: Alfred S. Busa, Chairman "DATE: 11/16/81 PAGE:
Board of Selectmen
FROM: Peter M. Chalpin, Chairman} SUBJECT: Mass Avenue
Traffic Safety Committee Bus Stop
At its meeting of October 21, 1981, the Traffic Safety
Committee discussed the request from Mr. Broussard to relocate
the bus stop at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Percy
Road.
Although the committee felt that this issue is outside
the area of "traffic safety" and beyond the limits mandated
to it by the Board of Selectmen, it addressed the request by
the Broussards with a view toward the possible impact that
removing or re-locating this bus stop might have upon those
pedestrians using the present stop. One suggested alternative
supports the removal of this stop since other bus stops are
in place approximately 800 feet in either direction near the
former "Munroe School" westerly, and Pelham Road easterly.
However, removal of the stop would inconvenience those who
live in the immediate Percy Road area. In turn, they would
be forced to walk to either of the other stops mentioned.
The second alternative supports a re-location to the opposite
corner of Percy Road, which also merges with Tavern Lane.
This would not be a desirable place for a bus to stop since
the bus would block Percy Road and present a hazard to north-
bound Percy Road vehicles approaching Massachusetts Avenue.
From the point of view of accident statistics and general
pedestrian safety, the committee felt that the present bus
stop does not merit re-location.
