MEMORANDUM
TO: Robert M. Hutchinson, Jr. DATE: 4/13/77 PAGE: 1
Town Manager
FROM: John J. McSweeney, Chairman ( SUBJECT: SIMONDS ROAD
Traffic Safety Committee j \ PARKING
At its meeting of 4/6/77, the Traffic Safety Committee discussed the
enclosed report from Captain Lima to Chief Corr regarding parking on
Simonds Road.
The Engineering Division was asked to investigate the matter, and it
was found that, due to the narrowness of Simonds Road with vehicles parked
on either, or both sides, frequent "false calls" are sent to the signal
controller by vehicles leaving the intersection. Conversely, on many oc-
casions, vehicles approaching the intersection swing out to pass parked
vehicles and miss the detector. This situation leaves the driver "lost"
in the intersection, facing a red indication controlled by a device that
does not know he is there.
We feel, as does Captain Lima, that no parking on either side is
justified, and we recommend instituting this regulation.
