MEMORANDUM "Q.
TO Allan 7. re-iiey, Chairman DATE 9/18/72 PAGE.
Board of selectmen
FROM John J. McSweeney, Chairman SUBJECT `.rent Street
Traffic Safety Committee iarnin 3: ns
(Mr. i Iprl'_n)
The Traffic Committee agrees that tqere is a problem of speeders on
Grant Street, ho-:ever, the same problem exists on nearly every other
street in Town and we must disagree with Mr. Marlin 's proposal for
remedying trie situation. Grant Street is currently posted for 30MPH
and, if drivers will not obey these signs where violations mean
penalties, a "Children at Play" sign is hardly likely to make much
impression on them. The only purpose this sign would serve would
he to create a false sense of security in the minds of the cqildren
and parents . In our opinion, this would create an even greater
problem than exists now. Therefore, we recommend ircr ased enforce-
ment by the Police Department on Grant '3treet . Chief Corr advises
that this will begin immediately,
