i
FROM Traffic Co_. .attee_ SUBJECT' EldreJ a . at Bedford St.
Dr. f'inger's letter relative to the traffic problems ate' the junction o Lldred and
Bedford streets was reviewed by the Traffic Committee.,{ Our convents ,are as follows:
it
it
1. This traffic problem has been studied in great detail a!+d the Select en and the
Traffic Committee are both very familiar with the conditions.
_ 2. 4-The traffic fatality on Lldred St. has no relation to the problems at the junction
w as I have pointed uNgt. to Dr. Vinger. •
Y y
3. IS is dur c_inlon base`yOn a thorough study that the installation of a traffic
signal will no* pravide a solution to this traffic problem.
6 .
4. We believe that rel iez can tie obta_x_ed by a redesign of the '_artwell Ave -
Bedford St. junction and by provt•-inn street connection at that location as an
alternative to Lldred St. This recommendation has beer made in conjunction with
land development proposals in the area, most recently in connection with r_adley Rd.
extension.
5. Some reduction. of 2edford St. traffic will result fror the construction of the
Rte. 128-Ha_rtoell Lve. connector near the Wood St. junction.
Traffic proble-s at Eldred St. junction are similar to the conditions at other
collector street junctions with Bedford St. In the absence of alternate arterial
streets traffic is forced to use Bedford St. and its volume results in conditions
which can not oe eliminateu through signalization or other regulatory measures.
