MEMORANDUM
TO: Mary W. Miley, Chairman d4 DATE: 6/30/80• PAGE
.4f V Board of Selectmen
FROM Peter M. Chalpin, Acting Chairma SUBJECT Follen Hill
Traffic Safety Committee
As per our report of June 13, 1980,-the Committee has contacted the
School Department to determine the projected number of children who will
be crossing Follen Road at Dawes Road and at Locust Avenue. It is estimated
that 6 will be crossing at Dawes Road, and 28 at Locust Avenue. In addi-
tion, we discussed the Committee's earlier recommendation for consideration
of sidewalks in the area.
The enclosed plan indicates in yellow the locations of the sidewalks
which the Committee recommends be considered in the upcoming budget. Please
note that, based on our evaluation of the request for crossing guards, we
have expanded our earlier recommendation to include a new sidewalk on Buckman
Drive from Philip Road to Dawes Road, and on Dawes Road from Buckman Drive to
Follen Road. It was agreed by the Committee and School Department that under
this proposal, children living easterly of Follen Road could be funnelled to
Dawes Road. It was further agreed that a single crossing guard at Dawes Road
would provide adequate security for the walkers.
In conclusion, it is the Committee's recommendation that sidewalks as
shown on the enclosed plan be considered during this year's budget process,
and, if approved, that a single crossing guard be stationed at Dawes Road.
