Robert Cataldo, Chairman, Board of Selectmen DATE . October 15, 1970 The wording of the proposed sign at Five Forks has been discussed by the Traffic Committee and suggestions requested through Mrs. Westerman from Lincoln St. residents. The following suggestions were received: 1. GO SLOW, NO HOSPITAL'. 2. PAY HEED, DRIVER. OUR CHILDREN WALK AiEAD TO SCHOOL AND TO PLAY. ENDANGER THEM NOT LEST YOU BE SEVERELY PUNISHED. (with a picture of Minute-Ma.n pointing finger) . 3. GO SLOW, DEAF CHILD (not true) . I told Mrs. Westerman that in our opinion the suggestions were com- pletely unacceptable, but that I'll forward them to you. Within the Traffic Committee, Chief Corr favors a standard "caution" sign with a silhouette of a child, while the Town Engineer and myself prefer a non-standard sign, as on the enclosed sketch. The sign should be orange-yellow with black lettering to attract attention. The sign should be used at Five Forks for a trial period and, depend- ing on public reaction, be either removed or similar signs placed at other entrances to Lexington from state highways.
