S U B J E C T : Traf f ic Regulations __
F R O M ' A.V. Zaleski, Traffic Comm.
'T ' Robert Cataldo, Chairman O F Board of Selectmen
D AT E . April 15, 1970 FILE REF.
' 1. The Committee is not in favor of restricting parking on Hibbert St. to one
hour, as requested by six residents. No problem appears to ecist and the enforce-
ment would present difficulties all out of proportion with the possible beaefits.
F 2. Mr. Cosgrove of Hartwell Ave. asked that speed signs be posted on Hartwell Ave.
This is not possible since the State DPW does not permit posting except on streete
subject to special speed zone.
3. Mr. Clancy of i.exington Cab Co. wants to relocate and add taci stands as
indicated below. The Committee considered all the sites requested and recommends
' as follows, based on he traffic conditions and suitability of space:
a. Add 3-cab stand in front of the Bamboo Hut - recommended
b. Add 3-cab stand in front of Itek - opposed, Mr. Clancy should negotiate
with Itek to use 3 spaces to the right of their parking lot entrance next
to the railroad spur.
c. Add 3-cab stand in front of Brewster's, Concord Ave. - opposed, no safe
adequate locati.on.
d. Add 3-cab stand between 41844 Mass. Ave. and Clarke St. - opposed, this
areaan be served by 6-cab stand in Depot Square.
e. Discantinue stand across from town offices - recommended, now that the
cab campany office has moved.
4. The Traffic Committee would like your approval of a detailed study plan by
the Town Engineer of the following gossible improvements in the center:
a. Make Edison Way two-way from Depot Sq. to the back of the parking lot next
to the Craft Cleaners and rearrange parking, including recommendations for
the rearrangement of parking on privae property to facilitate circulation.
b. Move bus stop from in front of Lexington Federal to in front of library
next to the Clarke St. junction.
c. Move the mail boaes and the bus stop from near the entrance to the town
offices parking lot to near the exit from the horseshoe drive in front of
town offices. .
The traffic Committee believes these changes would help in facilitating circu-
lation, but a plan with exact dimensions is necessary to ensure that adequate
space can be provided in all instances. Upon the preparation and review of the
plan we will make ciefinitive recommendations to the Board of Selectmen for the
needed amendment of our Traffic Rules and Regulations.
