Call to Order, Welcome, Council Business & Public Comment a. Review and Approve Last Meeting's Minutes i. Principal provided an introduction for the group and legal background as to the purpose of the group. A brief review of the Innovation Plan (called by law the School Improvement Plan, SIP) ii. Parent questions regarding the origin of the Innovation Plan - What year are we in? Beginnings? iii. Principal - Plan is rooted in the heart of the four goals of LPS and Dr. Hackett's Strategic Plan for the district. Every school has their plan rooted in these goals. Everything we do is rooted in this. iv. Goal #1 - we have nine different initiatives in the school to achieve this goal. Next meeting I will bring a more detailed plan that will include measurable outcomes for each initiative. This document is public information. The innovation plan should be known by both parents/caregivers and staff. Trying to find different ways to communicate this with staff, families and students is important. v. LPS: 2 Year Innovation Plans - an overview of this year's timeline and objectives for the innovation plan that we should tackle. vi. Parent question - A year ago, we were still in the throes of trying to figure out how we recover from major disruption (referring to Covid). Do you have a sense of where we need to focus? vii. Principal response - Since the innovation plan focuses on the four goals of the district, we are not simply in recovery mode from the pandemic. We are using real data - MCAS, the YRBS, as well as data from the BU research that was collected over a year ago in the middle schools. We also have a good amount of internal data to reference as well. viii. Parent question - Do you receive information from the MCAS survey each year? ix. Principal - Maureen Kavanaugh does provide us with MCAS data each year. b. Set Meeting Times for `23-'24 School Year c. Public Comment II. Parent, Staff, and Admin Check -Ins: Thoughts About the Beginning of the School Year a. Parents: Comments on this year. i. Parent - So far so good. 8th grader happy to go to school. Happier since cross-country has started. Parent app is providing a lot of alerts, but no way to see more. ii. Parent - information from teams not clear. My 6th grader has a field trip this week and I don't know what is going on. Are we packing lunch, are we not? iii. Parent - problem is everyone is oriented around email. And we are not able to get the information we need as easy as we used to. iv. Parent - I actually prefer this method. I switched away from "digest" mode and it is better for me. v. We deal with text messages, email, apps for work and phone calls. Think about how many people can view or deal with all of these methods. I would like one method. vi. Parent - bottom line - we need an organized method for sharing information. b. Staff: c. Admin: III. Outlining Our Goals for `23-'24 a.
