Board of Selectmen
FROM John J. McSweeney, Chairman SUBJECT• Mass. Ave. & Waltham St.
Traffic Safety Committee Traffic - Mrs. Williams
After discussing Mrs. Williams' letter regarding vehicles stopping
at the Police Officer in Lexington Center to obtain directions, it was
the opinion of the Committee that under the present physical layout of
the sidewalk on the northerly side of Massachusetts Avenue no steps can
be taken to eliminate this practice. While we recognize that inconve-
nience occurs when someone is asking directions, the Committee is unan-
imously opposed to the removal of a metered space, since it would only
serve to deplete our already inadequate number of available Center
Business District parking spaces. The Committee also feels that this
visibility of the Officer and the services he render are important in
the overall working of the Center. It is therefore our recommendation
that no action be taken on Mrs. Williams' request.
