Chalpin, Chairman - -1/ SUBJECT: Lexington Center Traffic Safety Advisory Comm'404 r Crosswalks At its meeting of March 15, 1989, the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee discussed my February 24, 1989 report to the Town Manager concerning Center Crosswalks. Members of the L.C.C. also attended the meeting, and jointly the Committees developed specific recommendations for improving pedestrian and traffic safety in the center. The Traffic Safety Committee's unanimous recommendations are as follows: 1. Attach 25 MPH speed plates to the existing crosswalk barrels in the center; 2. L.C.C. will prepare wording for "Safety" signs at entrances to Town; 3. Relocate the existing crosswalk on Massachusetts Avenue at Clarke Street to in front of the library; 4. Eliminate twelve unmetered parking spaces around the Green, three metered spaces on Massachusetts Avenue and one metered space on Waltham Street (see enclosed plan); 5. Install a channelizing island per enclosed plan, with signing, on Massachusetts Avenue at the Green. This should be done on a trial basis; 6. Make Harrington Road one-way from Massachusetts Avenue toward Bedford Street, again on a trial basis; At this time we recommend that no action be taken at Woburn Street and Massachusetts Avenue. It is our understanding that street lighting issues will be addressed by the L.C.C. and Design Advisory Committee. Those in Attendance: Peter M. Chalpin Dr. Clarke Mrs. England Mrs. Kabat-Zinn Lt.
