HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-03-20-CLC-rpt.pdf Report of the Cary Lecture Committee March 20, 1972 The 1971_72 Cary Lecture Committee was appointed by the Town Moderator, acting under a vote of the 1971 Annual Town Meeting. No town funds are appropriated for the operations of the Committee; rather, its programs are made possible by a budget of twenty-five hundred dollars assigned by the trustees of the Isaac Harris Cary Educational Fund, in accordance with the wills of the Cary sisters. Three programs were planned for this season's Cary Lectures. The first event featured Dr. Edwin 0. Reischauer, University Pro- fessor at Harvard and formerly Ambassador to Japan, on December 12, 1971. A large and appreciative audience heard Dr. Reischauer speak on the subject ',Looking Ahead in Asian. On January 29, 1972, the Committee was honored to present the Hon. William 0. Douglas, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, on the topic "The Conservation of Man". An overflow crowd attended. Finally, on April 9, 1972, the Committee plans to offer Mr. Stanton A. Waterman, noted underwater explorer and photographer, in a film lecture entitled "The Two Worlds of Polynesian. The Committee had hoped to present a fourth event, a daytime program for children of unusual quality. Unfortunately, this was not possible under the budget limitation.
