the Town to carry out the vote by which
the Town accepted the invitation of the
citizens of that and other towns in the
celebration of the approaching 19th day
of April, at Concord, ask leave to report,
in part with a view to further action.
They have had several meetings
for the consideration of the subject, and
have communicated with the Concord
Committee. The plan proposed by that
Com. is, for each of the towns uniting in
the celebration, to adopt such measures
for publicly noticing the day, by firing
guns, ringing of bells, etc., within their respective
limits, as they may deem proper, and
then for the citizens of all the towns to
unite at Concord, where an oration
will be delivered, and other appropriate
services performed, and a public dinner
provided. It is further contemplated that
the celebration of the day be closed by a
Grand Ball at the Lexington House, in which
as many as possible of the citizens of the other
towns, will participate.
A very large and highly efficient
committee, composed of citizens of Concord
and some from the other towns, have the
arrangements in charge, and are presenting
the work with vigor, so that it
is contemplated that a very large number
of persons, both ladies and gentlemen, will
attend the public services, and unite in
the dinner, and preparations of the most
ample nature will be made for the accomodation
of a very large multitude.
It is presumed that we citizens of Lexington
will not be backward in commemorating
a day so intimately connected with the
history of the town and of the American
Revolution; but as your committees are
not fully possessed of the views and feelings
of the people in relation to the measures to be
adopted to secure an approipriate celebration,
they have thought it best to bring the subject
before the town again, in this form, for the purpose
of attracting public attention thereto, and as
a pretininary step towards a general
meeting of all those who may desire to join
with the people of the neighbouring towns
in comemmerating this important anniversary.
This general meeting has been called
by your Committee and will take place
at the Lexington House, on Thursday evening next -
the 7th inst., and they hope that there will
be a full attendance of those who are
desposed [sic] to act, so that the Committee
may know how to proceed.
