HomeMy WebLinkAbout516 Petition for a Town Meeting in regard to fitting out of a company of volunteers, no date but presumed 1860sTo the Selectmen of Lexington
Believing it to be the sacred duty of every man to defend
the government under which he lives, when assulted by hostile
force, and that the present crisis calls on every good citizen to
contribute in person or means to uphold our cherished institutions,
we the subscribers, legal voters of the town of Lexington, respectfully
request your board to call a town meeting to
consider the duty of the town at this hour of danger and
trial, and to take such action as to the citizens shall
seem proper in regard to the fitting a company of
volunteers, and the support of the families of such soldiers
as shall leave wives or children in need of such aid.
