HomeMy WebLinkAbout2669 Report of the committee on arranging the new burying ground, March 1, 1844The Committee to whom the following Article was refered "To see if the Town will choose a Committee to report for the consideration of the Town a plan for arranging in becoming lots the new burying ground and regulations to be observed for occupying the same or act upon the subject in any other way." have attended to that duty and report that the Committee unanimously recommend to the Town to have the 3 ranges of lots that are now laid out remain as said lotts are laid out except to have a passage way 3 feet wide on the easterly side and a passage way 2 feet wide on the northerly side of said lots provided the friends of persons interested in this proposed passageway consent to have them remarked[?]. Also to lay out 16 ranges of lots making 176 lots 19 by 18 feet with a passage way 3 feet wide on the easterly side and 2 feet wide on the northerly side of said lots with an Avenue 12 feet wide between the 3d & 4th ranges extending across on the southerly side of said lots and then across the yard between the 15th and 16 ranges to the Avenue on the northerly side of said yard. Also to have stone, locusts[?] or cedar posts erected at the corners of said lots and one post to each lot numbered. Also that the sexton be directed to keep a record of all persons intered in said yard or lots specifying the number of the lot and ascertain as far as is practicable what persons are intered in the lots now laid out and make a record of the same. Also that the sexton be directed to have all persons wishing to inter members of their families in said yard take the lots as they are numbered commencing with the lowest number. Also that the Selectmen for the time they are in Office be a Committee to decide what persons may take lots to inter members of their families and to grant leave to persons making application to build Tombs and direct where said Tombs may be erected and that said Selectmen have the general super- intendence of said burying ground.
