HomeMy WebLinkAbout2339 Two reports concerning the Burial Ground, 1858The committee chosen in May last with
power to enlarge the Burial Ground, near this house
"provided land could be purchased for a reasonable
price" now ask leave to report. Your committee
viewed contiguous land and were united
ly of opinion that the land of the heirs of the late
John Mulliken, deceased, was the only lot of
sufficient size to meet the future wants of the
town which could be obtained. Said heirs offer
to sell about five acres, for the sum of two hun
dred and fifty dollars per acre; with the right
of way to the same from the Concord Road
(next the land of George Mulliken)
for one hundred dollars. This enlargement is
bounded by the present cemetery, the railroad,
& land of George Mulliken,
the unsold and of said heirs, Sullivan Burbank &
Lloyd Nowland. Your committee recommend
the town to authorize their treasurer to borrow
such sums of money as said purchase may amount
to when the satisfactory title is given.

The Selectmen to whom was refered the sub
ject of an Avenue to the land purchased of the
heirs of John Mulliken for the purpose of en
larging the burial Ground, submit the fol
lowing Report:
They have viewed the proposed
passage at the lower end of the lot, and
also the proposed passage next to the land
of Col. Burbank, and are unanimously of
the opinion that the interest of the Town
will be best promoted by an Avenue
next to Col. Burbank's land. They would
therefore recommend that the Committee
who were empowered to purchase said land
adopt the Avenue next to said Burbank's
land; and that they take a Deed of the land
and not simply an easment of the same,
and they they cause to be inserted in the
Deed or Deeds the provisions hat the said
heirs build one half of the fence, both
against the land so purchased and the
Avenue leading to the same.
