HomeMy WebLinkAbout2287 Report of committee on buying land adjoining the new burying ground, November 14, 1853The Committee chosen on the 17th of October
last to consider and report from the
subject of purchasing a lot of land adjoining
the new burying ground, have attended
to the duty assigned them and
Report;-
That they have confered with Mr Samuel
Rice on the subject of his land contiguous
to the burying land, and find that he is
willing to exchange his lot for a portion
of the town's land lying between the Town
Hall and the land now occupied by Mrs
Aleijah Harrington - said Rice giving two
rods of his land for one now used by the
town. The Committee are of the opinion
that it would be desirable to enlarge the present
burying lot, and that the lot owned
by Mr. Rice is, from its position and topography,
well calculated for the purpose.
They would therefore recommend
that the town authorize the Selectmen
or some committee to exchange lands
with Mr Rice, and cause to be executed
such conveyances as may be necessary
to a good title; provided they can make
such arrangements in the details as
shall in this judgement be reasonable
and for the interest of the town.
The Committee were also directed to
inquire whether they could obtain land
so as to widen the passage way from
the town street to the present yard;
on inquiry we find that the land adjoining
the said passage way is so situated,
that a title cannot be obtained
at the present time.
All which is respectfully submitted
