The Board of Appeals held a regular meeting on Thursday, October 13, 1977,
beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building.

Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notices of the hearings
having been mailed and hearings advertised in the Lexington Minute -Man newspaper
as required by statute.
Varian/Lexington Vacuum Division - variance to permit parking spaces to be esta-
blished having a width of 9 feet instead of the required 10 feet. Variance would
apply to four parking lots at 121 Hartwell Avenue.
Anthony R. Cataldo - renewal of permission to process and sell fruits and veget-
ables at premises located at Gold Ribbon Farms, 1265 Massachusetts Avenue.
D & R Realty, Otis S. Brown, Jr. Trustee - special permit to construct an addition,
measuring 70' x 25', to the existing building located in a CB zone at 409 Massachu-
setts Avenue which will expand an existing use relative to the storage, retail sales
and rental of automobiles, including accessories thereof pursuant to Section 25.54
of the zoning by-law.
Lexington Gardens, Craig P. Cavanaugh Mgr. - to grant permission to expand the sale
of supplementary items as listed in subsection 24.5, paragraph 1, to include the
sale of Christmas related items and fresh produce as per two lists submitted to the
Board of Appeals. "Product expansion would not require expansion of present facility.
Allocation of space for present product mix would be adjusted to accommodate new
lines. Exact locations are shown on floor plan" submitted to the Board. "Time
frames for sale of new items are as follows: Christmas items November 1st through
January 15th and produce sales on a year round basis. No expansion of business hours
is requested for sale of said items. Store hours will remain the same as provided
for in Lexington's Special Permit dated December 9, 1976."
DECISIONS: The Board made the following decisions, all in open meeting. See deci-
sions filed with the Town Clerk and in Board of Appeals' files for more details.
Varian/Lexington Vacuum Div. - granted unanimously.
Cataldo (Cold Ribbon Farms) - granted unanimously.
D & R Realty - granted unanimously.
Lexington Gardens - withdrawn by petitioner.
Other discussion: Enforcementofconditions imposed on permits is often a problem.
The meeting adjourned at 11:05 p.m.
