A regular meeting of the Lexington Board of Appeals was held on Tuesday,
June 20, 1972 at 7:30 p.m. in the selectmen's meeting room of the Town Office
Building. Present were Chairman Nickerson, regular members Dawes, Sheldon,
Wadsworth and Mrs. Morey.
Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notice having been
mailed to the petitioners, to the owners of all property deemed by the Board
to be affected thereby as they appear on the most recent local tax list, to
town boards who will or might be affected by decisions made, and also adver-
tised in the Lexington Minute -man:
Richard F. Galehouse - petition for a variance of the Lexington Zoning By -Law
to maintain the present building at 11 Lee Avenue with a front yard of 10 ft.
instead of the required 30 ft. and a right side yard of 8 ft. instead of the
required 15 ft. and to build an addition 12 ft. by 14 ft. one story high which
would have a right side yard of 10 ft. instead of the required 15 ft.
Mobil Oil Corporation - petition for permission to erect and maintain a free
standing sign on the property located at the corner of Lowell and North streets,
being numbered 653 Lowell Street. The sign shall be 8 ft. 2 in. wide and 3 ft.
7 in. high and shall be an embossed plastic -faced aluminum framed sign.
Illumination shall be provided by interior flourescent lamps. The word "mobil"
shall be displayed on each side of the sign.
Lexington Arts & Crafts Society. Inc. - petition for a variance of the Lexing-
ton Zoning by-law to permit Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, Inc., 130 Waltham
Street to build an addition to the existing building in a residential zone with
a side yard on the northerly lot line of ten feet instead of the required fif-
teen feet and special permission under 25.24 for expansion of the existing per-
mitted use.
Lexington Gardens, Inc. - petition from Lexington Gardens, Inc., who has an
option to acquire the property of S. Arthur Peterson, Inc., 544 Lowell Street.
Some building changes will be necessary for effective use of the property for
growing purposes. Assurance that these changes may be made is necessary prior
to the option being exercised. Proposal: removal of one 21 ft. by 100 ft.
twenty year old greenhouse and the attached showroom -office structure, and
their replacement with a lancscaped, painted cement block 40 ft. by 100 ft.
structure. The structures being removed were designed and used as a growing
area, showroom, office, potting area and furnace area. The new structure,
which will be set back from the road approximately 12 ft. farther than the
current structure, will be used as a greenhouse area, garage and furnace room.
Following the hearings the Board made the following decisions, all in open
meeting and all unanimous:
Robert Graves - petition for
a variance to
allow for the

be fenced and
there shall be no
lighting. The vehicles to be
parked shall

ditions: (1) 60 parking places be created, and (2) an official engineered plot
plan be secured by the Arts & Crafts Society to ensure no encroachment on the
stipulated side yard and right of way.
Lexington Gardens, Inc. - denied.
All pertinent material is on file under the name of each petitioner.
The meeting adjourned officially at 11:07 p.m.
