November 23, 1971
A regular meeting of the Lexington Board of Appeals was held on
Tuesday, November 23, 1971 at 7:30 p.m. in the new selectmen's meeting
room, Town Office Building. Present were Chairman Nickerson, regular
members Abbott, Dawes, Sheldon and Wadsworth.
Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notice
having been mailed to the petitioners and to the owners of all property
deemed by the Board to be affected thereby as they appear on the most
recent local tax list and also advertised in the Lexington Minute -man:
George M. Avakian - for permission to vary the Lexington Zoning
By -Law in order to erect a garage on property at 181 Marrett Road
which will have a 72' side yard instead of the required 15'.
Community Nursery School - for permission to erect and maintain
a free standing sign 22' by 2' on the school property at 2325 Massachu-
setts Avenue.
Charles F. and Marguerite O'Brien - for permission to vary the
Lexington Zoning By -Law to allow a one story addition to be built and
attached to the existing dwelling at 41 Reed Street with a 7 foot side
yard instead of the required 10 feet.
James F. Sawyer - for a variance of the Lexington Zoning By -Law
to subdivide the property at 5 Centre Street leaving insufficient area
and frontage.
Charles W. Bachman - for permission to add a greenhouse to the
property they are leasing from the Reorganized Church of Latter Day
Saints. The property of approximately 2 acre is located at the back of
the church property at 1386 Massachusetts Avenue and faces on No. 11
Percy Road. The greenhouse is 20 ft. in diameter and 12 ft. in height.
This greenhouse will be used for hobby purposes only.
Jan and Johanna Stepan - for a variance of the Lexington Zonifig
By -Law in order to maintain the dwelling at 50 Dexter Road with insuf-
ficient front yard of 1.2 feet and insufficient side yards of .7 feet
on both northerly and southerly sides of the property.
Following the hearings the Board made the following decisions, all
unanimous:
George M. Avakian - granted.
Community Nursery School - granted, subject to the condition that
the sign which presently swings from a metal bracket shall be fixed so
' as not to swing.
Charles F. and Marguerite O'Brien - denied.
James F. Sawyer - denied.
