' A regular meeting of the Lexington Board of Appeals was held on
Tuesday, July 13, 1971 at 7:30 p.m. in the selectmen's meeting room, The
Bird Room, Cary Memorial Building. Present were Chairman Nickerson,
regular members Abbott, Dawes and Wadsworth, and associate member Reed.
Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notice hav-
ing been mailed to the petitioners and to the owners of all property deemed
by the Board to be affected thereby as they appear on the most recent local
tax list and also advertised in the Lexington Minute -man:
Robert W. Crooke - for permission to erect and maintain a sign 17"
x 25" on the building bracket for the Grueninger Travel Service at
14C Muzzey Street.
Vaughan K. and Margaret Bogosian - for permission to operate an
electrical contracting business in the existing building at 640 Lowell St.
Robert A. Bowyer - for a variance to maintain the present dwelling
and garage at 7 Woodcliffe Road and to build an addition with insufficient
front yard and side yard.
John D. Hodge - for a variance of the Zoning By -Law to allow the
construction of an addition consisting of a second story bedroom to the
' existing dwelling at 34 Revere Street, reducing the side yard to approxi-
mately 18'3" instead of the required 20'.
Mrs. Ralph Schontag to continue operation of a kindergarten for
twelve or more children, five days a week, 9:00 a.m. to noon, at her home,
296 Woburn Street.
Nawal K. Tanaja and Carolyn C. Tanaja for a variance to maintain
the dwelling at 5 Russell Road with overhang of roof of house leaving
insufficient front yard in the amount of one foot, and front steps and
canopy leaving insufficient front yard in the amount of three feet.
Following the hearings the Board made the following decisions:
Vaughan K. and Margaret Bogosian - permission unanimously granted
to operate an electrical contracting business in the existing building with
the intention to operate with five trucks and ten men and subject to the
following conditions:
1. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., six days a week, except for
emergencies.
2. No noisy machines may be operated. Some fabrication may take
place but the building will be used mostly for storage, none of
it outside.
3. There will be no unusual lighting except for purposes of
protection.
Robert A. Bowyer - permission unanimously granted to maintain
present dwelling and garage with a front yard of 27'k' and to build an
addition with side yard of 13'10" instead of the required 15 ft.

Robert W. Crooke - permission unanimously granted to erect and
maintain a wooden sign 17" x 25" on the building bracket at 14 Muzzey St.
It will be painted white with black letters bearing the legend
"Grueninger Travel Service" and as approved by the Historic Districts
Commission on May 5, 1971.
John D. Hodge - permission unanimously granted to build an addi-
tion consisting of a second story, attached to the existing dwelling at
34 Revere Street with side yard of 18'3" instead of the required 20'.
Mrs. Ralph Schontag - permission unanimously granted to continue
the operation of a kindergarten for twelve or more children, five days
a week, 9:00 a.m. to noon, at her home, 296 Woburn St. Permission
shall expire on September 10, 1972, subject to the right of the Board of
Appeals to extend the petition.
Hawal K. and Carolyn C. Tanaia - unanimously, the Board decided
that the application of the Lexington Zoning By -Law be hereby varied so
far as may be necessary to permit them to maintain their dwelling at
5 Russell Road with front yard of 27' instead of the required 30'.
