A regular meeting of the Lexington Board of Appeals was held on Tuesday,

March 23, 1971 at 7:30 p.m. in the selectmen's meeting room, The Bird Room,
Cary Memorial Building. Present were Chairman Nickerson, regular members
Dawes, Sheldon, Abbott and Wadsworth.
The following petitions were heard:
Mrs. Charles R. Gredler - permission to operate a reading school for
5k and 6k year olds in two rooms of her home at 119 Burlington Street.
Norman I. Sebell - variance on the property located at 100 Burlington
Street to permit the construction of an "in ground) swimming pool within
five feet of the rear property line instead of the required 15 feet.
Lexington Gardens Inc. - permission to replace a plastic greenhouse
with a glass greenhouse, 31 ft. x 258 ft with a 29 ft. x 75 ft. jog and
to construct a new steel and glass greenhouse, 31 ft. x 275 ft. on the
premises at 93 Hancock Street.
Arthur Gaklis - permission to have hours of the nursery at 1265
Massachusetts Avenue open to the public during the spring selling season
(April, May and June) until 9:00 p.m. weekdays and until 6:00 p.m. on
Saturdays and Sundays and permission to use a 8' x 6' portable cashiers
booth outside in the sales yard during the same spring selling season.
Lexington Housing Authority - finding and determination that the
5 -acre proposed state -aided garden apartment housing for the elderly project
located in an RM - multi -family dwelling district off Waltham Street between
Vine Brook Road, Sherburne Road and Winthrop Road and to be known as Vine -
brook Village constitutes a suitable development not detrimental to the
neighborhood and the Town; the number of paved parking spaces to be at least
25 with space for 24 non-developed parking spaces within the project and
permission to vary the Building By -Law of the Town of Lexington so as to
allow for frame construction for the proposed state -aided housing for the
elderly project described above and permission to vary the Zoning By -Law
so as ;to allow 12 dwelling units in each of the buildings comprising the
above project and permission to vary the Zoning By -Law so as to allow a
45 foot frontage on Waltham Street to provide access to the proposed state -
aided housing for the elderly project.
Following the hearings, an executive session was held during which the
following decisions were reached:
Mrs. Charles R. Gredler - granted with conditions listed on permit.
Norman I. Sebell - denied.
Lexington Gardens Inc. - granted with conditions.
Arthur Gaklis - decision postponed until a later date. (Granted -8 p.m. -April 13)
Lexington Housing Authority - decision postponed until a later date. Granted
on April 13 - pending rezoning of Waltham Street lot.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 p.m.
