It is c J so aggravating to cit= zens of the Town to brave the elements in bad weather,. if they are e : erred to another department only to find it is in the othe L 'Deriding. iding The present office machine room contains an addressing equipment, accounting machines and water billing machines , in an area that is only 1.30 square feet, creating extremely crowded conditions. Due to lack of space, the copying machine, duplicating machine, and postage meter mach- ine must be kept in corridors or in an office where it is both inefficient and disturbing to have people coming in and out to use them At present, the Water Department is utilizing part of the hallway on the second floor as office space, It is possible that the Welfare Department space, now rented by the State will eventually be available for used but this only contains approximately rs15 square feet: SPACE REQUIREMENTS in the fall of 1966 , all Departments, Boards , Committees and Commissions, were queried as to their estimation of space and personnel requirements, with an ultimate population in mind for the Town of 45,000. Once again • the interdepartmental activity was studied and reviewed With no extra space available in any department, (the Water Department having already been moved into the corridor to utilize all available space) , the need fox additional room was already upon us In the present building hour!nq the Selectmen, Public Works , etc , there is approximately 11,600 square feet. To house the departments that are now on the second floor of the Police Building, and provide for the additional space necessary, approximately 11,000 square feet more is requii :d. In November of 1966 several architects were contacted and interviews set up with them On February 20, 1967 , Perry, Dean a Stewart, Architects, 31 St James Street; Boston, Massachusetts, were retained. This company handled the colonial_ restoeation of Williamsburg, Pennsylvania; and are th : architects for the new Liberty Mutual Building on Bedford Street in Lexington Mr Detail of 'lorry, Dean & Stewart, met with this committee periodically during i967 and 1968, in studying the space problem, determining the &mount of: space necessary to 'Ihcuse" the ,number of personnel estimated .aeces,e ry to serve a population of approximately 45,000 , aided in deter- raring the building concept to adopt, and fuenishing preliminary pians DF`id'F'x_:D;`.• FNT OF DESIGN Lcc a r... study, it atiCOrh sva t that aanpco . a tev more this-1 r • '' ' z Mi y,x7i ,:- .,: . .. :.'
