Minutes of Lexington Commission 2000
Meeting of January 13, 1998
Room G-15, Town Hall, Lexington, MA
Present: Skip Hayward, Jim Roberts, Suzie Barry, Pat Flynn, Lou
Sideris, Rob Neufeld
Excused: Dan Busa, George Comtois
Guests Joe Medlin-DPW, Capt Peter Torode-Lexington Fire Department,
Capt . Jim Kilmartin-Lexington Police Department
Meeting was called to order by Skip Hayward at 7 00 p.m
Chairman
-Skip distributed a list of budget items that need to be identified.
George C. is handling most of the list Karen Simmons of Recreation Dept
will be invited to our next meeting to discuss the use of Lincoln Field
and cleanup issues Pat Flynn will investigate the banner issue Skip
will speak to Steve Politi of HDC before presenting the idea for the
banners to get his feedback
-Skip announced there will be a reception after Battle Road 1998 at the
Munroe Tavern for potential sponsors to attend Attendance will be
limited Suzie and Jim will work on a list of companies and a
invitation. Invitation should go out the beginning of March, followed up
by phone calls . We will probably develop a two-tiered list of invites
-Skip announced there will be some type of reception at the Hartwell
House in the Spring (May?) for potential sponsors
-Commission 2000 will have a table at Discovery Day 1998 (May 23, 1998)
It will be between The Lexington Historical Society and The Lexington
MinuteMen Skip and Rob are working on bookmarks to be given away.
-Skip discussed publicity Rob will bring a list of magazines we should
get our information into (due to advanced deadlines) to the next meeting.
-Skip met with Senator Fargo at the State House and brought her up to
date on Commission 2000 She said she wuold help get us whatever grants
she could Senator Fargo, Senator Havern, Rep Kaufman and Congressman
Markey will be invited to the March meeting.
Meeting with DPW, Fire & Police.
-Skip went over the background of the Commission and the difference
between 2000 and TCC
-The Timeline for 2000 was gone over
-There was significant discussion regarding parking and transportation

Skip will try to schedule a meeting with HAFB (Col . Piazza) and
Massport (Peter Blute) to see if we can use parking and busses from them
-The following questions were raised
-Do you know how many people will attend? (LFD)
-What about terrorrism? (LFD/LPD)
-What type of magazine, powders etc will be used/stored? (LFD)
-Will the Parade route change? (LPD)
-Skip asked LFD for an EMT to be on site for the 2000 weekend and also
for Battle Road 1998
-2000 will be a Presidential Election year - at this time no speicial
invitations are expected to be issued to candidates to attend
-It was deceided to invite DPW, LFD & LPD to meeting every 2 - 3 months
beginning in the Fall of 1998 .
