Events Coordinator Chairman - Press Conference:
Daniel P Busa,Jr. -George reported that he spoke to Tom Leavitt at the Museum of Our
Selectman Liaison
Lewis C.SIderis National Hentage and we can use the Conference Center on Monday,
National Parks December 15, 1997 at 1.30 p m., with a 2'00 p m. start for our Press
Honorary Members: Conference at no cost.
Christopher C.Casey -We need to put together a list of those that should be invited to attend
Chief.Police Department
and a letter will be sent to them describing what the press conference
Elizabeth B.Eddison
Selectman and the Lexington Commission 2000 is all about. We will ask them
Peter D.Enrich to reply whether or not they can attend.
Selectman
Dan F Fenn,Jr. -Pat will put the Chamber list together, George will put the town
Selectman clubs/organizations list together and Suzie will put a TCC list
Jay R.Kaufman together All of the lists should be to Skip by Fnday, 10/24/97
State Representative
Thomas w Leavitt -Jim Roberts will waste the letter and get it to Suzie so she can do a
Director,Museum of print merge for the letters and the envelopes. They should be mailed
Our National Heritage
Edward J.Markey no later than the beginning of the second week in November
U.S.Representative -There will be a head table with name plates for the Commission
Leo P McSweeney members at the Press Conference
Chairman.Selectman
John FQuinlan -Skip, Jim and Rob will meet before the next meeting to go over the
Chief Fire Department program for the Press Conference
Richard I.White -At the Press Conference we will suggest other ways people can get
Town Manager
George A.Woodbury involved with events, have an organizational chart with names
Director.Public Works included in the handouts, discuss the events for the weekend of April
15-17, 2000 and possibly show videos of the reenactment and/or
Battle Road. We will also see about having the Flag at the Museum
displayed.

-We will make follow up calls to the letters that are sent out to the Press Conference to
help boost attendance
Treasurer:
-Rick White(Town Manager)reported to Suzie on 10/20/97 that the $600 00 the
Commission requested to start to cover postage and printing expenses was approved.
Pat informed George how to go about getting bills paid through John Ryan's office
(Town Comptroller).
-It was decided that the Commission will set up an account at Lexington Savings Bank
for any donations it should receive.
Secretary:
-Skip reported that he will send thank you notes to the Honorary Members.
-The Press Conference letter needs to be out the second week of November
-Skip passed out Lexington Commission 2000 stationary and envelopes to those who
needed them.
-There was discussion over a letter that was sent to the Selectmen requesting funding
(and services?) from the Town over the next few years. It was decided that the letter
should be resubmitted with the amounts increasing on a sliding scale as we get closer to
the events.There is the possibility that the funding request may have to go before Town
Meeting at some point. We should follow up on this.
Encampment:
-The MinuteMan National Park has consented to having the encampment on Park
property should a suitable site in Lexington not be found or is unavailable
Public Safety.
-Jim will speak to Police Chief Chris Casey to see if they might be eligible for some type
of grant for all the police work that will be necessary for this event. (note in 1975 the
Town received $20,000 in grant money for the Police Dept.)
Miscellaneous:
-There was a brief discussion of House Bill 1961 that concerns funding for Celebrations
for the Millennium and a e-mail Suzie received from Jay Kaufman's office concerning
this
-Superintendent of Schools, Dr Jeffrey Young has been added as an Honorary Member
of the Commission.
-Jay Kaufman will sponsor a Colonial Ball at the Statehouse in Boston, MA in February
2000 The Statehouse can accommodate 1200-1500 people The event is still in the
planning stages but may include transportation as part of the event.

-At the next meeting, we need to set meeting date for 1998 and will probably move to
more than one meeting per month(bring your calendar!)
-All events for 2000 will flow through the Commission.
-Skip will be serving as a"Historical Consultant" for a movie that will film in Lexington
about the Battle The movie will be called "Dawn of a Nation" Tom Bemnger will play
