McSweeney, Chairman SUBJECT' Battle Green - Traffic Safety Committee Parking At its meeting of 5/28/74, the Traffic Safety Committee discussed the letter from the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, expressing their concern about all-day parking around the Battle Green and suggesting this space be reserved for tourist parking. As you know, the Committee has and does recognize the parking problems in Lexington Center for the worker and tourist alike, and would like to see all accommodated. However, we feel that until some overall improvement can be made, no special areas should be set aside for tourists, as this action would only compound our existing difficult- ies. The Committee did vote to recommend to the Board that they advise the Chamber of Commerce to request employees to check the Town lot for parking availability before parking at the Green. It has been our ex- perience that these employees park at the Green all day as a matter of convenience, rather than of necessity, since there is usually ample space in the Meriam Street lot as the time they arrive for work, but it is a little further to walk. In conclusion, the Committee strongly opposes reserved parking at the Green and recommends more efficient use of the available space. Those of the Traffic Safety Committee in attendance were.
