McSweeney, Chairman su BJECT• School Street Traffic Safety Committee Please be advised that the Traffic Safety Committee at their meeting of March 5, 1974 reviewed your request of February 17, 1974 regarding School Street. 1. ) The prohibited of parking on one side of School Street: See no need for this prohibition--the area has been surveyed at various times and we have not witnessed an unnecessary on street parking that would impede pedestrian crossing and /or present a traffic hazard. 2.) Crossing guards at one of the intersections: Whereas there are three intersections, the stationing of one crossing guard would not only be ineffective, but would be impossible to control three intersections at one time. 3.) Radar enforcement during morning and afternoon hours: The Police Department has checked the area a number of times and they find that this street presents no problem. 4.) As to the question of painting crosswalks at the three locations in question: This Work Order has been issued and as soon as weather permits, the traffic section of D. P. W. will begin their spring traffic striping and painting program. 1 As to the recommendations that were quoted in the Minute Man paper, I do not believe that after the Board decided to drop the construction of the sidewalk which was an integral part of improving the pedestrian crossings, that it became feasible for them to implement each and every recommendation that was presented to them as an alternate for the original proposal. Those in attendance were: John J. McSweeney, Chairman, Traffic Safety Committee Chief Corr, Member, Traffic Safety Committee Captain Lima, Member, Traffic Safety Committee Kenneth Briggs, Member, Traffic Safety Committee Copy: Board Members Mr. O'Connell 3-20-74 TLW 1. 91974 F TM 1 MP-2M 1
