MINUTES

Present: McKenna, Phillips, Gilman, Hagelstein, Witthoft
1. Updates on Demoliiton Delay.
a. 610 Waltham St. Committee inspected the building 11/11/88 with
Bob Phelan and Mr. Condinho. All members called Chairman McKenna and
final vote was 3-2 in favor of permitting demolition. McKenna
arranged for the stone to be given to the DiBonti's who will use it
as facing for foundation for Allen-Swenson farmhouse.
b. 21 James St. , Kwi Jung, bungalow. Demolition permit granted.
c. 30 Grove St. , David Mallory. Demoliton permit granted for part of
structure.
d. 190 Lowell St. Dilapidated barn. Demolition permit granted.
e. 188 Lowell St. 1920's "Dutch Colonial." This house was stripped.
"constructively demolished" before inspection. Iss ue discussed. at
what point does the commission take legal action in such cases? (1)
do we have authority to intervene before inspection? (2) Do we have a
way to inform other agencies? Phillips suggested we investigate
whether there are ways to bring the demolition of usable non-luxury
houses to attention of other town bodies, e.g. for low-cost housing.

2. Preservation Month. Ideas. an award should go to the DiBonti's.
Witthoft will write to Irving Kanter, sending copy of National
Register materials, and will get in touch with John Davies. Witthoft
presented an article by M. Kierstead on the Lexington RR Station for
publication in the Minuteman, and we hope to have 3 more
articles--one per week--for preservation month. Witthoft also
mentioned 2 possible houses for inclusion in national register: 39
Locust (W R Greeley), and 52 Follen Hill (the A.L. Ripley house.)
3. Dawn McKenna's resignation from the Commission, due to press of
business and personal affairs, reluctantly accepted.
