I. Welcome
A. Introductions by members present
II. Approval of Minutes From Previous Meeting
A. Katina Lawdis approved the minutes, motion approved by all.
III. Updates
A. Principal
1. The principal search continues. There have been opportunities for
students, staff and parents/caregivers to meet with Dr. Lyons, from
Human Resources, to give their input. A number of staff members are
part of the search committee. Additionally, there is a survey for all
stakeholders to fill out and provide feedback.
2. Standards-Based Grading update: Learning Process Standard at the
middle schools is a focus of both Diamond and Clarke to examine how
students are transitioning to LHS from middle school. Tomorrow
afternoon will be a professional development day for teachers to dive
deeper into this standard to examine what this really means for our
students. We know that students who do not do well with this standard
have a more difficult time transitioning to LHS.
3. We are getting ready for 5th grade transition meeting. There will be a
night time meeting for parents/caregivers and students in March. June
10th is the step-up day when 5th graders come to Diamond for part of the
day and have their initial orientation. There is also a meeting tonight at
LHS for 8th-grade parents/caregivers and students.
4. Stepping-Up Ceremony will be June 17th.
B. Staff
1. No updates from staff.
C. Parents
1. Teacher Ease - still have parents/caregivers who have not accessed their
child’s report card. Is there a way via the PTO that this information can be
shared with parents/caregivers?
2. Dr. Cole shared his screen/data in a pie-chart format for each grade level
to show the Site Council the amount of parents/caregivers, students, and
no logins. Dr. Cole also shared that he will work with our DLC (digital
learning coach) to see what other resources are available for our
community to assist with this process.
IV. Open Discussion
A. Dr. Cole shared the SIP (School Innovation Plan) - this is a 2-year plan. This plan
is lengthier than other school plans. So we need to look carefully at this plan and
see where we are and what we need to focus on. I do need to provide an
update as to where we are for each of the process benchmarks. Thus, I would
like to look at this as a team and identify where we are as a school from all
perspectives (staff, parents/caregivers, students).
B. Last evening, there was a secondary school PTO meeting for both middle
schools and LHS parents/caregivers. There will be an upcoming event with a
guest speaker. The event is called, “Behind the Screen” - it sounds extremely
informative and important. We will continue to inform staff and parents/caregivers
about this event.
C. Teacher comment: Whitney Didie expressed concern about snow days and
considering the snow days and extending trimesters rather than just adding days
at the end of the year.
D. Concerns at both middle schools as well about the third trimester with field trips
too; impact unified arts especially because they only meet three out of the six
days.
E. Teacher comment: Dr. Katina Lawdis expressed concern about parking and the
lack of parking for staff during the day. Specifically for teachers that travel, it is
extremely difficult to come to the school during the day and find a parking space.
Additionally, many cars are present in the morning that belong to community
members walking their dogs, or hiking in the woods in the morning. Could we
ask if they can’t park here during the day?
F. Parent comment: Even with back-to-school night, it is extremely dangerous. It
would be impossible to get a fire truck in.
G. Dr.Cole will be contacting facilities to see if we could get specific tags or signs to
express school hours should be reserved for school parking.
V. Meeting Adjourned
A. Movement to adjourn meeting from Mrs. Didie and agreed by all.
