This Selectmen' s Advisory Committee was formed in December 1969 to determine 1) what Acton is going to do within its own borders ,2 coordination with activities of surrounding towns , and 3)moasuras for public safety. Legislation by the Great and General Court P=itted towns to sot aside amounts of money in anticipation of the 1975-76 events. Acton has set aside '',.20 ,000 from 1969 to this year. Operating expenses (most) of tho Committee have been included in the Selectmen's budget. Expanses of the Committee are mainly related to the additional amounts needed by Town departments and organizations ( Minute Men) over the 1974-76 period. Medallion sales and other projects make up most of the balance. We suggest projects, but do not fund any school activities. State and Federal monies available for matching grants have so far been very limited , although we have applied for those for refurbishing ccmetary markers. The celebration will begin with a Crown Resist— ence Day parade and Harvest Ball in September 1974, April 19th March to Concord in 1975 , and close with a Crown Resistance Day parade in September 1975. No other parades are planned, nor are we planning July 4th celebrations. Planning has been done on the basis that while participation will be much larger at our events, there will be no demonstrations or other disturbances.
