HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-01-13-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 13, 1976 PRESENT: Chmn Barnes, Mr Gaughan, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Flynn, Mr. Brenchick Paul Jenkins MINUTES: the minutes of the meeting of January 6, 1977 were read from notes by Mrs. Mitchell. Printed minutes will be available on January 20. CORRESPONDENCE. Mrs Litchfield reported that she had contacted Hanscom AFB and that there were presently 6 generals stationed there. She will review the list of those officers usually invited on Patriots Day and ask for the names of only those holding particular positions. PARADE THEME. Additional suggestions made were as follows. Old Glory - Long May She Wave Old Glory Flies Again Long Live The Flag Of Freedom Long Live The Stars And Stripes Of Freedom With Liberty And Justice For All What So Proudly We Hail Forever In Peace May She Wave Noting that these suggestions centered around the potential dedication of a new flagpole and attention to the flag, Chmn. Barnes said that there had been no further word on pole delivery date. FORMS, LETTERS. Mr Flynn distributed copies of revised application forms and a covering letter to be sent to participating units. These were reviewed by the committee, a few changes were suggested, and after duplicating all, Mrs. Mitchell and Mr Flynn will be responsible for mailing them to units which were agreed upon as being potential participants. Mrs. Litchfield will write to the customary military participants, including musical military units PARADE PARTICIPANTS• Mr. Flynn noted the receipt of a letter of interest from the Alexandria High School Band, of Alexandria, N.Y This group wishes to appear in the afternoon parade at no cost to the Town. Mr. Flynn has called their director to say that the group will recieve application forms , as soon as possible OTHER PARADE ARRANGEMENTS. Chmn. Barnes asked Mrs. Litchfield to call the Lexington Red Cross to ask that a representative meet with the TCC on January 20' to arrange for emergency first-aid coverage along Lhc parade route. It was noted that Garber and Corcoran ambulance services had done this in 1976, after it was realized that the weather would be unusually hot. There was further discussion of potential candidates for Chief Marshal. No votes were taken: there was general agreement among those attending the meeting that a Chief Marshal need not necessarily be a current Lexington resident provided he has the requisite Lexington parade partici- pation experience t I TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE - Minutes, January 13, 1976 Page 2 PARADE ARRANGEMENTS (continued) Paul Jenkins offered to contact those Boy Scouts who served as aides in 1976 to see if all would be willing to serve again this year The card file which Paul began will be his reference Paul also said that he had a "line of actual march" parade roster from 1976 with him at the meeting Mrs Mitchell will obtain copies for all TCC members before January 20 LUNCHEON There was continued discussion about this traditional event All present agreed that it serves many, many purposes, and that, in financial terms, there was probably not much money to be saved by changing either the usual locale or style of meal OTHER BUSINESS Mrs Litchfield said that she had had no written reply or further contact from Captain Commanding Daigle of the Minutemen She will write him, therefore, and ask that the designated representative(s) to the TCC meet with us on January 27th Respectfully submitted, Ruth M Mitchell, Recording Secretary
