HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-01-13-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 13, 1983 Chairman Fitzgerald convened the meeting at 8 20 P M with members Flynn, Gaughan, Djiokonski, Jenkins and Snow present. Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted that Patriots Day, 1983, be celebrated in accordance with State designation on April 18, 1983 In response to Vice Chairman Flynn's suggestion that members try to think of anniversary related themes, Karen Gaughan submitted "Time Honored Tradions" as the theme for the Patriots Day Parade Upon motion duly made and seconded it was voted to adopt "Time Honored Tradi- tions" as the theme for the 1983 Patriots Day Parade The vote is conditional upon approval by the absent members The Chairman reported that the Police Chief and other officials have expressed no objections to resuming the East Lexington starting point for the Patriots Day morning parade Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted that the morning parade on April 18, 1983, commence at 7 30 A M at Pleasant Street and Massachusetts Avenue. It was agreed by all that steps should be taken to publicize this enlargement of the parade route. The Chairman informed the members of the vote of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors to again lend support to the Patriots Day parade by solicitation of funds from local businesses. The Directors also voted that the Chamber will provide funds for prize money for winning floats The following were nominated for Chief Marshall for the Patriots Day Parade. --- Richard Crogan Lincoln Cole Charles Cullen and the qualifications and service to the T C C of each discussed Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was unanimously voted to designate Charles Cullen as Chief Marshall The Chairman will confer. with Mr Cullen as to his willingness to serve in this capacity The following were nominated for Chief of Staff for the Patriots Day Parade Gresh Lattimore Charles Sullivan Paul Cunha -2- T.0 C January 13, 1983 and the background of each discussed Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was voted to appoint Gresh Lattimore as Chief of Staff for the Patriots Day Parade The Chairman reported that he had requested an increase of $500 in the FY'84 Budget, due to increased costs of bussing The meeting adjourned at 9 30 P M Respectfully submitted, Marion H Snow
