Minutes-February 17, 1983
The meeting convened at 8 10 . In attendance were Chairman Fitzgerald
Vice Chairman Flynn, Paul Jenkins , Robert Jackson, and Karen Gaughan.
Guests : Charles Cullen, Leo Gaughan, Marita Hartshorn.
First business was with Marita Hartshorn, representing the Girl Scouts .
This organization was formally requesting that the A.M. parade begin
in East Lexington, or at least at the Museum of Our National Heritage
as a compromise . A decision to begin at Waldorf School had already
been made and plans were related to Mrs . Hartshorn. Need for Banner
Bearers and float matter also discussed.
Committee addressed matter of having a nonresident in the position of
Division Marshal or adopting policy used with Chief Marshal and Chief
of Staff. No decision was made . Chairman Fitzgerald reported that
Division 1 , 2 , and 3 Marshals had been contacted and will contact their
staff .
Robert Jackson has received firm committment from 18th Army Band and
Heritage Platoon.
Chm . Fitzgerald has secured the Elks Hall as pre-parade meeting place
for invited guests . He continues to work with Elks in attempt to
obtain Shriners . Details of plans and needed buses for this Unit reporte
Discussion of problems at the end of the parade (i .e .unauthorized vehicle
and the need to utilize available parade staff was held . It will be
important to hold pre-parade meeting and make specific staff assignments .
Only invitation reply received to date is from the Governor. He will
not attend.
Paul Jenkins reported contact with Troops 119 and 120 . Frank Rymes
will provide the name of the Scouts to read oaths .
Meeting adjourned at 9:45 .
