HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-10-09-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATION COMMITTEE MINUTES--OCTOBER 9, 1986 PRESENT: Chairman Bill Fitzgerald; Vice Chairman Ray Flynn; Marion Snow; Pat Flynn, Bob Jackson; Jean Coates Chairman Bill Fitzgerald called the meeting to order at 8:05 p.m. The Minutes of October 2nd, 1986, were approved as presented. REPORTS OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS Veterans Day - November 11, 1986 - UPDATE Marion Snow reported that Rabbi Eisenman (Temple Emunah) consented to give the Invocation and Benediction at the ceremonies on the Battlegreen. She offered to send an invitation "postcard" to Linc Cole and will obtain the Veterans Day Proclamation. She expects that Chairman John Eddison of the Board of Selectman will read the Proclamation. Ray Flynn plans to meet with Jeff Leonard, LHS Band Director, on Friday, 10/10/86, to finalize musical participation. He will request that God Bless America be played at the end of the program. He will also contact Paul Mazerall to arrange, as usual, the stand, speakers and flag raising requirements. Bill Fitzgerald has not yet been able to reach Marion Fitzpatrick for the reading of In Flanders Fields. The Elks were very happy to be invited to participate in the ceremonies, he announced. No response as yet has been received from Hanscom AFB to acknowledge the request for a speaker of the day (2 Col. William Flanagan, new Base Commander) . Jean Coates has sent an invitation to Stephen Doran, and will request permission from the School Committee (Shepard Anthony Clough, chairman) to use the parking area of the School Administration Building as assembly area. An invitation to participate in the parade and ceremony will be included. (n.b. - Fran Mallett will send the request/invitation to the School Committee.) Bob Jackson plans to contact Bedford High School's ROTC for a marching detail. Patriots Day - Monday, April 20, 1987 - UPDATE Ray Flynn has mailed 45-50 letter to playing units. He commented that prices requested have been going up; also, that some units (Holy Name, West Roxbury) have been disbanded. Bob Jackson - Bedford High School ROTC unit will provide a marching detail for Patriots Day. Patriots Day - UPDATE (continued) Pat Flynn is trying to get the ROTC unit at MIT to send the Brigade. Bill Fitzgerald reported that a representative of a Mummers Band from Philadelphia contacted him, and is sending data regarding their uniformed groups They have 4 busloads (150-200 people) who want to come to Lexington on Patriots' Day weekend (Sunday, 4/19/87) They have offered to present a 1-hr concert (? Cary Hall, Dana Hall or ?) If the TCC accepts their request, they ask that the full width of Mass. Ave. be made available to them for an exercise in front of the Reviewing Stand. The North Miami group (trip cancelled in 1986) are "working on 1987." He is getting price quotes on guidons for the Divisions. NEW BUSINESS ELECTION OF OFFICERS - TCC - 1986-1987 The following were unanimously elected: Chairman William P. Fitzgerald 1st Vice Chairman Raymond Flynn 2nd Vice Chairman Marion Snow Recording Secretary Frances Mallett ASSOCIATE MEMBERS Chairman Bill asked that the Committee be prepared at the next meeting (10/16/86) to discuss and propose associate members for the TCC for referral to the Board of Selectmen, as requested. The question of whether the associate members should be designated as an "Ad Hoc" or "Sub-" Committee will be referred to Town Counsel by Chairman Bill. It was the consensus of the Committee that Associate members must be aware of (and willing! to) the need to give up holidays (e.g , Veterans Day, Patriots Day, Memorial Day) and also plan to attend all meetings of the TCC before consideration.
