MINUTES - January 21, 1988
PRESENT Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman, Nancy Cannalonga, Bob Jackson,
Pat Flynn, Jerry Hagerty, Paul Jenkins, Jean Coates,
Dawn McKenna, Mary Anne McKenna, Marilyn McWeeney
ABSENT Ray Flynn, Karen Gaughan
Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 8 p m The Minutes of January
7th, 1988, were approved as submitted (No meeting held on 1/14/88, because
of extreme cold weather )
PATRIOTS' DAY
CHIEF MARSHAL - Chairman Bill reported that Ben Golini has accepted the
Committee's nomination, and will be Chief Marshal He will
provide a picture and writeup for the Lexington Minute Man
Ben will select his staff 2 Navy men and 1 Marine The TCC will
review the names for approval (or disapproval)
THEME - Five proposals for a theme were presented by the Committee They
were (1) Pasture to High Tech
(2) Let Freedom Ring
(3) From Farms to Hi Tech
(4) Our Town - Lexington
(5) Continue "A Glorious Morning"
It was a UNANIMOUS VOTE for the theme "OUR TOWN - LEXINGTON" for the
1988 Parade (Thank you, Pat!)
CHIEF OF STAFF - A motion was made by Bob Jackson, seconded by Paul Jenkins
and Pat Flynn, that "Cecil Jones, new District Commander, VFW, be appointed
Chief of Staff n
The VOTE on the motion was UNANIMOUS. (It is to be noted that
this appointment is made with no guarantee of an automatic appointment to
Chief Marshal in 1989 )
SCHEDULING FOR PATRIOTS' DAY - Chairman Bill reported that
(a) Reenactment will take place at 6 a m (with agreement of Jim Hart,
Capt Commanding, Lexington Minute Men)
(b) Road Race has been moved up to 9 30 a m (from 10 a m ) start
(c) DAR/LMM services are scheduled to immediately follow completion of
road race
(d) Dedication of USS LEXINGTON plaques is tentatively scheduled for
the time slot 11 a m to 12 30 p m , predicated on the approval
of the Northeast Naval Band (Newport, RI) .
(e) The afternoon Parade will start at 2 p m
(f) Rotary Club will again host annual Pancake Breakfast at The Church
of Our Redeemer

Nancy Cannalonga - (1) Floats/float applications She will be assisted
by Mary Anne McKenna. (2) Girl Scouts (assisted by Dawn McKenna)
Jerry Hagerty - Banner Bearers
Assisted by Marilyn McWeeney, Bob Jackson and Charlie Hyde
(Chairman Bill said that the president of the Little League, Mickey
Finn) has volunteered to make calls to league players Applications
will be provided to him )
Ray Flynn/Pat Flynn - Bands
Bob Jackson/Pat Flynn - Military marching units
Jean Coates - VIP letters - Federal (and Consul General/Gr Britain)
Dawn McKenna - VIP letters - State
Marion Snow - VIP letters - Local
Marilyn McWeeney - Publicity
Charlie Hyde/Paul Jenkins - Boy Scouts
Paul Jenkins Banners & signs
The Parade rosters will be a combined effort
Bill F reports that letters to prospective sponsors are "in the works"
(by the Chamber of Commerce)
REPORTS
Pat Flynn - An application is in at Ft Devens for the Heritage Unit and
US Army Band (depending on availability)
He has been contacted by the leader of an "interested Boy
Scout troop from Belmont
He will send an invitation to Navy ROTC Commander (MIT)
Bob Jackson - has contacted
-HAFB Color Guard
- He has requested an "Invited Guest List" from HAFB
- HAFB has requested Pease AFB Band
- 94th RCOM Color Guard, plus tank and/or First Aid Station
is offered and available
- He will invite Mass National Guard Honor Guard
According to Bill, participation by the Shriners will be decided by the
next newly-installed Chief Potentate. He commented that they are most
anxious to have their Mounted Patrol Unit in the Lexington Parade.
A request was mailed (prior to the November 1987) deadline for the Clydesdales
The Committee unanimously agreed to extend an invitation to the LHS Senior
Class President to be Chief Marshal of the a m Parade Bill will contact
the High School
