HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-01-28-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES -- 1/28/88 PRESENT Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman Bob Jackson, Jerry Hagerty, Pat Flynn, Paul Jenkins, Nancy Cannalonga, Jean Coates, Marilyn McWeeney, John Holt, Mary Anne McKenna, Charlie Hyde ABSENT Ray Flynn, Karen Gaughan Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 7 35 p m Motion was made and seconded that the "Minutes of January 21, 1988, be accepted as submitted " PATRIOTS' DAY - UPDATES Chief of Staff - Bill reports that Cecil Jones was happy to have been selected for this position He asked if he could choose at least one of his aides He will submit name(s) for TCC approval Chief Marshal Ben Golini and Chief of Staff Cecil Jones will be present at the next meeting, 2/4/88, at 8 p m. Both will submit their nominees for aides A M Parade will commence at 7 30 a m , from Seasons Four Garden Center Same rules apply as last year We must keep cars, etc on the hardtop They do not mind if we line up parade around back of building Mary Anne McKenna will prepare a listing of TCC and Associate members - names, addresses, telephone numbers - for distribution to our august group. Clergy - for A M Ceremonies - Bill requested names of clergy to give Invocation and Benediction at the a m ceremonies following the "Youth of Lexington" parade Proposed were Mr. Tom Clough (Hancock Congregational Church) - by Charlie Hyde, and Rev Stephen Healy, St Brigid's (Mary Anne McKenna) Bill suggested Cdr. Wyatt Willard, oldest Navy Chaplain, who will give Invocation and Benediction at Plaques Dedication Ceremony Charlie will contact Mr Clough, Bill, Fr Healy It was felt that participating in the early a m ceremonies might be too arduous for Cdr Willard Dick Michelson and Eric Michelson agreed to again feed in floats along the line of march A proposal by Chairman Bill to have two Reviewing Stands (side by side) received UNANIMOUS APPROVAL from the Committee Jerry Hagerty has sent a letter to Acting Supt of Schools Zimmerman for approval to request Banner Bearers at schools Nancy Cannalonga suggested that a blurb requesting banner bearers be placed in all schools' Newsletters TOWN CELEBRATION COMMITTEE - MINUTES 1/28/88 Page 2 Bill suggested contacting Principals who will follow up in their schools, as in the past, with announcements otz PA systems and reminders to homeroom teachers Bill also commented that 4 "good-sized Junior High boys" were needed to carry the USS LEXINGTON banner that was also carried in the Navy parade in Washington Nancy Cannalonga has prepared and distributed float applications, as requested Pat Flynn has contacted Belmont scouts They are voting tonight to decide on participating in the p m. parade (approx 40 boys and girls) - all 3 ROTC units from MIT plan to come - no response yet from MDC; nor Pease AFB a- ndks if we can ascertain-asap how many convertibles are needed-a m Marilyn McWeeney delivered press release to Lexington Minute-Man (Mickey Hinkle) , not published 1/28 Bill Fitzgerald has contacted Elks They have no definite commitment yet from the Shriners, however, they do plan to sponsor them again - Lexington Police coverage will be the same as last year's - Martin Gilman, Lexington Historical Society, will ring the Old Belfry bell, again this year ASSIGNMENTS - A M Parade - Nancy and Marilyn will organize youth groups for promises, oaths Charlie and Paul will get names of boys from troop leaders who will recite oaths, promises They will give complete list to Nancy, who will coordinate for program (Names and Troop nos for rosters ) Bob Jackson has heard nothing further from HAFB, Pease or the 94th RCOM. -has requested Ceremonial Unit/Band/marching unit from Mass National Guard Marilyn is to write a letter to the president of the Lions Club, William Donahue (Potter Pond Rd ) asking that he contact all past White Tricorn Hat recipients to see who wants to march They will be asked to meet the a m. parade at the School Administration Building at 7 30 a m Marilyn was asked to contact Marion Snow re "Spirit of '76". Bill has been contacted by Nancy Barter, Lexington Youth Commission They plan to ask Selectman Leo McSweeney to present their award(s) USS CONSTITUTION plans to send a small group to march in the p m parade, after attending dedication ceremonies A group of 40/50 from Fall River, similar to the USS CONSTITUTION group, asked for an invitation They will come "at no charge " ADJOURNMENT 8 55 p m NEXT MEETING DATE Thursday, 2/4/88, 7 30 p m Respectfu/lly s tted, an Coates, Recording Secretary
