HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-02-11-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES --- 2/11/88 PRESENT: Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman; Ray Flynn, Vice Chairman; Bob Jackson, Nancy Cannalonga, Jerry Hagerty, Jean Coates; Marilyn McWeeney; Charlie Hyde ABSENT Pat Flynn; Karen Gaughan; Paul Jenkins Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m TELEPHONE RELAY SYSTEM: He then announced contact responsibilities for meeting cancellations, etc. : Bill F. - Ray/Pat/Chief Marshals Ray - Bob/Jean Bob - Jerry/Nancy Nancy - Paul/Dawn McKenna Dawn McKenna - Mary Ann/Marion Mary Ann - Marilyn/John Holt John Holt - Charlie Hyde/Cecil Jones The Minutes of the meeting of 1/28/88 were accepted as submitted. UPDATES-PATRIOTS' DAY Bill reported that LHS Senior Class President, Jeff Hagopian, had accepted the Committee's invitation to be Chief Marshal in the a.m. He will select his aides and Chief of Staff for the a.m. parade. Two (2) 60' reviewing stands will be used. (Second one to be borrowed from HAFB or City of Waltham) LEXPRESS has requested a float application. Nancy will send. Ben Golini, Chief Marshal, will submit names of aides next week (2/18) Cecil Jones, Chief of Staff, has not yet prepared his list; but promised same for 2/18 meeting. Marilyn will prepare a press release re: appointment of Chief Marshal. This will, hopefully, be given space in the 2/18 issue of Lexington Minute Man The announcement that Cecil Jones is appointed Chief of Staff will follow---hopefully in the 2/25 edition. He will bring in a picture and short C.V. on 2/18. Charlie Hyde has been assigned to work with Paul Jenkins on banners. Bill has received written permission to use parking area of the Seasons Four Garden Center for assembly of the a.m. parade. Although the Shriners are in favor of participating in the p m. parade, the Elks have received no formal acceptance. Bob Jackson is to write Chief Bergeron, LFD, requesting participation of the LFD Honor Guard in both parades MINUTES - TCC - 2/11/88 Page 2 REPORTS: Jerry has not had a response from Asst. Supt. of Schools Zimmerman for permission to recruit banner bearers He will send a follow-up letter. Nancy-Youth Commission has returned float application. They will again have a flat bed truck (Arlex) , no marching unit - Keith Hutchins (Wilson Farms) has requested a float application. They would like to have 3 types of entries in the parade: (a) horse and wagon; (b) tractor; (c) truck. Bill has asked the Town Manager/Town Counsel for a review of the blanket insurance policy of the Town, to see if it covers mounted (or saddle) horses. He suggested that a favorable response be made to Wilson's Farm, pending any restrictions from the Town (re insurance) . Also, the tractor would have to be on rubber wheels; they would have to provide their own "pooper scooper"! - Nancy has called Campfire, Christian Brigade, Girl Scouts/Brownies. - She will also contact "Pop Warner" football players for a m. parade. Charlie Hyde - has contacted Boy Scout Headquarters, Stoneham (personal visit) , and leaders of troops (by letter) . He will follow-up by telephone. - He will contact Little League Teams' leaders Pat Flynn (via Bill) - reports that response from Belmont group is favorabl -, - but not firm Names of clergy (Invocation/Benediction) presented at last meeting have been temporarily withdrawn from consideration. Bill is reviewing all rosters of previous years, to see who and which churches have not been contacted. A decision will be made later, pending his research report. Marilyn - An article on theme was printed in the 2/11/88 edition of Minute-Man -She has sent a letter to Lions Club President, William Donahue, asking that all interested White Tricorn Hat recipients join parade at 7:30 a.m -School Administration Building driveway. -She is working with Marion on "Spirit of '76". Jeff Leonard has 2 flutists/fifers (?) , also drummer. Bob-No response yet from military groups. - He has requested approval from The Church of The Redeemer to park Navy bus. No response yet Ray - has already received a number of applications from bands. Bill - has looked into a banner over Mass Ave. When final estimate is given, he will bring the item up before the Committee for a vote. His feeling is that it will be too expensive. The Committee next reviewed a.m. Parade Roster, using 1987's as a guide. Next week Ben Golini, Cecil Jones and LMM Capt.
