HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-02-18-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES -- 2/18/88 PRESENT Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman, Ray Flynn, Vice Chairman, Pat Flynn, Jerry Hagerty, Bob Jackson, Jean Coates, Marilyn McWeeney, Charlie Hyde, Dawn McKenna, Mary Ann McKenna, Marion Snow, John Holt ABSENT: Paul Jenkins, Nancy Cannalonga, Karen Gaughan Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 7.35 p.m. Motion was made and seconded; VOTED to accept Minutes of 2/11/88, as presented. Bill has asked the Town Manager for permits to park without charge in the Municipal Parking Lot for TCC meetings He will get back to Bill PATRIOTS' DAY - UPDATE Written permission to use Seasons Four Garden Center parking area for assembly of a.m parade reiterates there is no parking of cars allowed on grassy areas, stay on parking area; no buses allowed after 8 a.m. Bill has assured them of compliance, and that the parade will move out "around 7 30 a m " Arm Bands - Bill has placed an order for arm bands - in quantity to last "several years!" Shriners - It is official! The Shriners have agreed to participate. We have a Second Division! Reenactment of Retreat - (Sunday, 4/17/88) has not yet been finalized REPORTS Pat - Ft Devens is sending marching unit and color guard. Army Band is going to Arlington in the morning He has made request that they come to Lexington in the p.m. They will "get back" to him (n b.-policy is 1 parade/day) . Arrangements for feeding the Band have already been made Pat will take a ride to Devens to speak with Band Director, if he receives a negative response - He will give Jean the name of the Commanding Officer/Ft.Devens for formal invitation Jerry- has sent 2 letters to Asst Supt of Schools Zimmerman for permission to recruit banner bearers at schools No response yet. (Marion offered to call her Friday a.m.) Marilyn - Press releases (Chief Marshal/Chief of Staff) will go to Minute-Man with request for 2/25/88 publication Charlie - has contacted half of the Boy Scout troops Will finish before he goes away Bob - sent request to Chief Bergeron for LFD Color Guard No response - HAFB (Public Affairs Office received reply that no band is available from Pease. After discussion, Pat offered to call Col Seifert, Base Commander, to see if he will contact Pease. (N B -this is 3rd year refusal ) Meals and transportation to be provided if Pease Band comes - He has not yet heard from Mass. National Guard Bill - has received a letter from Lexington Minutemen requesting time in the a.m Program on the Green to give a new award - "Distinguished Eagle Scout Award " The Committee agreed with request Time will be allotted. TOWN CELEBRATION COMMITTEE - Minutes 2/18/88 Page 2 Ray - Fifty letters were sent to units, with an RSVP date of March 12th A few responses have been received SPIRIT OF '76 - Marilyn will call Jeff Leonard on Monday, 2/22, for the names of the fifers Peter Cohen will again play drum He is hiring costume USS LEXINGTON -(Pensacola) is planning to send (minimally) a marching contingent from the ship CHIEF OF STAFF - Cecil Jones presented to the Committee for approval the names of Angus McIver, Jaen- edlYd, Robert Rushton - for his Aides - Three cars will be needed for VFW members. Cars have been already offered by Lawless/Mirak/Bonnell CHIEF MARSHAL - Ben Golini submitted names of his Aides for the TCC approval They are Joe Steinkrauss, Dan Murphy, Paul Rouillard, Joe Rooney.
