HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-03-17-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES 3/17/88 PRESENT: Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman, Ray Flynn, Vice Chairman Jerry Hagerty, Paul Jenkins, Nancy Cannalonga, Pat Flynn, Jean Coates, Marion Snow, Dawn McKenna, Mary Ann McKenna, John Holt GUEST Cecil Jones (Chief of Staff) ABSENT: Bob Jackson, Charlie Hyde, Karen Gaughan, Marilyn McWeeney, Dawn Dziokonski Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 7 45 p m A MOTION was made and seconded to accept the Minutes of 3/10/88, as presented PATRIOTS' DAY - UPDATE Bill Shriners have called him. They want their horses in the Parade. Bill promised to discuss the insurance issue again with the Town Manager, who earlier turned down the request for "saddle horses " A M. Parade He has received from Jeff Hagopian, LHS Senior Class President, the names of Chief of Staff and Aides They are Tara Ippolito (Chief of Staff) , Aides-John Miland, Dan Stroldo, Carol Saunders. P M Parade BUS ROUTE HAS BEEN CHANGED THIS YEAR After buses unload. they will be routed up Follen Road, left on Marrett Road to Shell Station at Lincoln Street/Marrett Road, right on Lincoln Street to Worthen Road. Right on Worthen Road, to park as designated by the LPD The Shriners five buses, and the USN buslwill be allowed to cross Worthen Road, and park in the swimming pool parking lot After the USS LEXINGTON ceremony, the USN bus will travel down Mass Avenue - under police escort - and unload at Curve Street. Itwill be then routed back Mass. Ave to 2A West (Marrett Road) , to Lincoln Street, to park at the swimming pool parking lot Bill expects that the expenses for the shuttle buses will be close to $1000 this year! REPORTS Paul - There is an increase in the cost of banners this year. Last year's banners were $50 each This year, he was quoted $60-$65 He will see if the ripped banners can be repaired, and ask for a quote on those. If he is not happy with the amount(s) quoted, he will request quotes from other companies. Jerry - It appears we have more banner bearers than we need - at this time! Dawn McK - State invitations are out. Pat - Still waiting for HAFB guest list Jean - Federal invitations out. (VP Bush "unable to attend ") Nancy - Four float applications have been received so far. LEXPRESS and Battle- green Chapter of Demolay applications came in this week. She has sent applications to Symmes Hospital and Rainbow Girls Bill reported that the Chamber of Commerce will again provide prize monies for the float judging Ray- Received call from a former "Lady Lexington"-LHS Class of 1963. The Class is having their 25th reunion this year They would like to put a group in the parade. He has sent maps and a formal invitation. The Grey Nuns are celebrating the 250th Birthday of their order They would like to have a group in the parade Bill has made reservations at Peking Garden to feed the USCG and Navy Bands. USCG bus will park on Waltham Street, heading toward Marrett Road. TCC MEETING MINUTES - 3/17/88 Page 2 Marion - WNET called for information on Patriots' Day, for National TV. The Town Manager referred the call to Bill. r A M. PARADE/Ceremony Paul will ask Rev Brian Dixon of the Baptist Church to give Invocation and Benediction at the morning ceremony The morning parade roster was reviewed (using 1987's) Bill has suggested that a girl be asked to recite the Pledge of Allegiance this year. April 1st is the deadline for names of the reciters of oaths and promises. Jack Eddison, Chairman of Board of Selectman, will read the Governor's Proclamation. Rep. Steve Doran will give the greetings from the Commonwealth. Marion will type and photocopy the morning parade roster Past recipients of the White Tricorn Hat will meet at the School Administration Building (at approximately 7:15 a.m.) . DUTY ASSIGNMENTS Afternoon Parade BANNER BEARERS - Jerry Hagerty, Chairman. Charlie Hyde and Dawn McKenna are to report to LHS parking lot. Bus for banner bearers will be there 12-12:15 p.m. CHIEF MARSHAL'S DESK - Dawn Dziokonski and Mary Ann McKenna B.U. BAND CONCERT (1-2:15 p.m.-Battlegreen) - Bob Jackson. He is also responsible for keeping clear the Reviewing Stands. ELKS (Invited Guests) - Jean Coates (noon) EAST LEXINGTON - Chief Marshal and Aides; Chief of Staff and Aides. Pat Flynn is TCC representative at East Lexington Pat will make all decisions, solve problems; clear with Chief Marshal. John Holt will report to Pat Marion Snow - will assemble dignitaries, at Library, after the Selectmen greet "Paul Revere" at the Capt Parker statue. SPIRIT OF '76 - Marilyn McWeeney will set up practice sessions for "the Spirit." CHIEF OF STAFF Cecil Jones will be responsible for (1) directing marching groups (at the end of the Parade) down Worthen Road - to disperse near the swimming pool; and (2) Pick up arm bands FLOATS will be fed into parade by Dick and Eric Michelson. Nancy Cannalonga will work with Float Committee (Neil Cronin-Chairman) . She will accompany them as they judge floats, and make two lists of prizes awarded --by Divisions (Civic, Youth, etc.) . One list is to be immediately sent to Ray Flynn on the Reviewing Stand. The second list is to go to Bill Fitzgerald for his file. Neil Cronin is expected to attend a meeting sometime in the next few weeks. The Committee next reviewed a tentative roster for the P M Parade. Third Division Marshal is Col. John Watson, USA(Ret) ; Aides-Lt. Beatrice Lewis, USN(Ret) ; Sgt. Dick Crogan, USMC(R) ; Col Bill Wiles, USA(Ret) . The POPS CHORUS is scheduled to sing "Battle Hymn of the Republic" on the Green.
