MEETING MINUTES -- 4/7/88
PRESENT: Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman; Ray Flynn, Vice Chairman,
Bob Jackson, Charlie Hyde, Jerry Hagerty, Pat Flynn,
Nancy Cannalonga, Jean Coates, Mary Ann McKenna, Dawn McKenna,
Marilyn McWeeney
ABSENT: Paul Jenkins, John Holt, Dawn Dziokonski
GUESTS Ben Golini, Chief Marshal; Cecil Jones, Chief of Staff
Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 7:45 p m. MOTION was made and
seconded to approve the Minutes of 3/31/88, as submitted
PATRIOTS' DAY - Update
Chairman Bill reports that the full Board of Selectmen will be present for the
a.m. Parade. Mrs Smith will not be present in the p.m
Jeff Hagopian, LHS-Chief Marshal-a.m Parade, and representatives from
Amateur Radio group will be at 4/14/88 meeting.
Review of a.m Parade
The roster for the Youth Parade was reviewed Names of 2nd Division Aides have
not been received from Jeff. Additions to the 2nd Division include Lexington-
Bedford Hockey group and Little League.
NANCY - will prepare names of readers/reciters of Oaths/Promises on cards for
Jeff to introduce. She will also give Bill a list for the file/1988 Town Report.
She will also act as "prompter "
She has asked all troop coordinators to send participating youngsters to the
foot of the steps of the Reviewing Stand, when the Parade arrives at the Green--
so that they will be readily available
Rainbow Girls plan to march in the p m. , as well as a m
P.M. PARADE UPDATE
RAY - reviewed the list of bands for the p m Parade thaf have been approved and
notified. Approved for inclusion tonight were Northshore Starline Twirlers
and Wannapanaquins. Two more units are on hold, pending receipt of
additional sponsor funding and price negotiations with Reading High School.
BOB - Ceremonial Unit from 26th Div MNG will not be available.
HAFB will have a color guard and a marching unit in the p m Parade.
NANCY - Wilson's could not find their application, but they will have 2 floats
in the parade (1) horse and farm wagon filled with vegetables, and
(2) tractor pulling a trailer of farm animals.
Other float applications received are Nuclear Weapons Freeze group,
Lexington Community Playground; Lexington Youth Recognition, Lexpress
BILL - for Dawn Dziokonski - there will be another float (requested to
be placed after the AF contingents)- a self-propelled model of the F16,
followed by a Chevy van/trailer (for emergencies)
JERRY - has gone over list of banner bearers. So far at least 50 of those
contacted are definite. Bill has arranged for 2 buses at the HS
DAWN McKenna - Invitations have been acknowledged as follows
Albert Tedesco and wife will attend.
Rep. Steve Doran and wife will attend
Sen. Kraus (? and wife) will attend
Not coming Gov Dukakis; former House Speaker O'Neill
JEAN - has contacted British Consul General's office. They will let us know
as soon as they can, when his plans are set US Senators Kennedy and Kerry

Jean (continued) - Rear Admiral Couture,USCG, sends regrets.
Capt. Hodges "may" come. (as of 4/14/88-not yet heard!) (-
PAT - Lt. Clark - PR, HAFB - still working on Pease AF Band. Will let him
know Friday or Monday
- Contacted MDC. No sure what they are going to send this time They
wanted their horses in parade. Bill replied that the Town does not have
insurance coverage for saddle horses. Therefore, the Town Manager has
ruled, with advice of Town Counsel, not to admit saddle horses in the parade.
- Pat will call back MDC for other units
-36th Medical Battalion, Ft Devens, and Honor Guard will come They will
furnish own bus, but want to be fed. Bill has made arrangements.
BILL - Gen. Chubb, HAFB, ahs been ordered to Washington Plans to send
representative (Maj . General ? ) .
RAY- 60 chairs have been ordered for Reviewing Stands. Will be delivered
Friday, 4/15, picked up on Tuesday, 4/19.
For the rest of the meeting, the Committee put together the first (7 close
to final) draft of the Afternoon Parade Roster. WE HAVE A PARADE!
Dawn McKenna will type the roster, and deliver it to Pat - for a review at
the meeting of 4/14 - and update!
MISCELLANEOUS DETAILS
Cecil Jones is to assign one of his aides to work with John Holt at Follen
Road, unloading buses. He will also assign anotheraide to collect arm bands
at the end of the Parade.
-Bus signs have been ordered.
-Jerry will work with Charlie, Dawn McK on placement of banner bearers They
will meet at the High School at noon.
-Marilyn/Marion - Spirit of '76 - all set
-Dawn Dziokonski and Mary Ann McK will report to the Chief Marshal's desk,
East Lexington, at noon
-Bill will review with Jean plans for busing of Shriners and invited guests
from Elks to parade assembly area (and Reviewing Stand)
-BU Band Concert on Green is all set Requested backdrops still outstanding.
-Pat needs final list of floats from Nancy by 4/14/88.
REMINDER Traffic on Mass Ave will be cut off at 1 p m
-TCC agreed to breakfast (Rotary Club) en masse, after Reenactment.
