MEETING MINUTES - June 9, 1988
PRESENT: Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman, Ray Flynn, Vice Chairman
Charlie Hyde, Bob Jackson, Pat Flynn, Jean Coates and
Marilyn McWeeney
Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 7 45 p.m. The Minutes
of May 26th, 1988, were accepted with corrections. He announced
that Dawn Dziokonski had resigned from the Subcommittee.
CRITIQUE - MEMORIAL DAY
Pat Flynn stated that he felt it appropriate that a member of
the Lexington Minutemen was Chief Marshal of the Memorial Day
Parade, and suggested that we ask a member of the LMM to
assume this position every year Members of the Committee agreed
with his proposal.
Ray Flynn asked that 7 wreaths be ordered in 1989. He noted
that a suggestion had been made by a visitor from Chelmsford
that a wreath be placed on each side of the driveway at Westview,
instead of the one wreath.
Ray made a proposal that a plaque be placed near the flagpole
at Westview, commemorating "all veterans," to be used as a
focal point for the ceremonies there. This suggestion, too,
was agreed with by the Committee.
In follow-up, he proposed asking the Cemetery Commission to
finance. Bill suggested that a letter be sent to them.
He also proposed a Stop at the Soldiers' Monument again next
year, with the following MOTION "that a wreath, flag be placed
at the Monument to"All Soldiers of Wars", with appropriate volley
and taps."
Bob Jackson seconded the Motion. VOTE was unanimous.
CV16 asked that a wreath be placed also at the USS LEXINGTON
plaques. This request will be considered at a later date.
VETERANS DAY - November 11, 1988
It is the responsibility of the VFW (Jerry Garrity/Cecil Jones)
to get a speaker for Veterans Day from the State VFW organization.
They promised to get back to Bill by the first of November.
Marilyn McWeeney was asked to send a thank you letter to Lt.
Col. Harold Olsen, Deputy Base Commander-HAFB, for his address
on Memorial Day.
