HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-10-06-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES - 10/6/88 PRESENT: Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman; Ray Flynn, Vice Chairman; Bob Jackson, Charlie Hyde; Pat Flynn, Jean Coates; Marilyn McWeeney, Dawn McKenna. Chairman Bill called the meeting to order at 8 p.m. The Minutes of June 9, 1988 , were accepted as presented. VETERANS ' DAY Chairman Bill gave a tentative outline of the plans for the placement of a bronze plaque at the grave in Monroe Cemetery of Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, Thomas Cosgrove. His grandson, General Day, will attend, with his wife and other family members. Maj . Robichaud, from the National Guard Armory, Bedford Street, will let Bill know if they will provide a marching detail. Representative(s) of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society plan to be present. It is estimated that the program at Monroe will take 15 minutes. The parade will leave the School Administration Bldg. grounds at 9 : 30 a.m. , proceed to Monroe Cemetery for the dedication ( inc- luding taps, echo and a 3-round volley by Marines- and Lexington Minute Men. Then, the parade will regroup and march to the Battlegreen for the ceremonies, with a prior stop at the Soldiers ' Monument at Buckman. The VFW has not selected a Marshal or aides. They were unable to get a speaker; so Pat Flynn is working on it. Motion was made, seconded; the Committee unanimously VOTED: To contribute $150 to VFW Post 3007 towards a collation/reception, after the parade on Veterans ' Day. ASSIGNMENTS: Charlie will contact Boy Scouts for participation; Dawn - Girl Scouts, Brownies, Rainbow, Grace Chapel. She will get information from Nancy Cannalonga. Bill asked thatthey alert the leaders that, in case of inclement weather, ceremonies will be held in Cary Hall at 10 a.m. OTHER BUSINESS: Bill and Bob attended the installation of the Lexington Minute Men on Sunday, 10/2/88. TCC MEETING MINUTES - 10/6/88 Page 2 /-- RESIGNATIONS from the TCC have been received from Jerry Hagerty, Nancy Cannalonga and Dawn Dziokonski. During the summer, Marilyn and Dawn sent thank you' s to sponsors of the Patriots ' Day Parade. Picture taking for Annual Town Report: Bill requested the photographer here at 8: 30 p.m. ,Thursday, 10/27/88. Suggestions for slate of officers for 1988-89 were discussed. Nominations and election of officers will be held after new appointments are made by the Board of Selectmen to fill vacancies on the TCC. Ray Flynn reported that a Batavia, NY group (band and choir) would like to participate/parade on Patriots ' Day 1989 . He has sent information. Jean Coates will post meeting dates: October 13 , 20 , 27 ; November 3, 10, 17 .
