Update. USS LEXINGTON Reunion: Chairman Bill recounted that the
memorial plaques to be dedicated on Patriots' Day were the result of a
contact made in 1984, when approximately 400 veterans of ships named USS
LEXINGTON (CV2, CV16, etc ) came to Lexington for a commemorative ceremony
on the Green. Since the naming of the first Naval ship in honor of the
Lexington Minute Men, there has always been a USS LEXINGTON The present
vessel is an aircraft carrier
TCC MINUTES - 1/7/88 Page 2
Bill has asked the USS LEXINGTON Reunion Committee to plan a dedication
program for a 12.30-1:30 p.m. time slot on Patriots' Day.
He recommended to the TCC that the start of the afternoon parade be scheduled
for 2:30 p m. , rather than 2 p.m , and asked for the Committee's approval.
MOTION was made and seconded that the p m parade be set back to 2 30 p m
Discussion: Pros and cons included (1) Army and USAF marching units
have already been notified (by Pat and Bob) of a 2 p m start.
(2)Need for estimate of how many people would be present at
the dedication ceremony.
(3)Logistics involved if parade participants from USS LEXINGTON
were to be "fed into" parade at either the School Administration
Building parking area, or Fletcher Ave /Woburn Street; or
along the route - with the head of the parade formed at Route 2A
(Museum of our National Heritage) .
An unofficial poll was taken: 5 were in favor of 2 p m start and
4 of a delay to 2:30 p.m.
Bill will meet with personnel from the CV2 and CV 16 on Tuesday, 1/12/88,
and also check with Capt Furdon (LPD) regarding feeding in marchers from
the locations mentioned above
A vote on the starting time of the parade will be taken at the meeting
of 1/14/88, after Bill's report of his meetings noted above.
CHIEF MARSHAL - A MOTION was made, seconded and unanimously carried, that
Ben Golini (CDR, USN) be asked to be Chief Marshal of the 1988 Patriots'
